Poetry – Equality, Fairness and Tolerance

Equality, Fairness and Tolerance

Equality, fairness and tolerance

Were the cries from the scaffold

As the crowd jeered and called for blood.

They hung the three of them on the gibbet

For there was no room for such disgusting thoughts.

They had to pay the price.

Fairness – an absurd idea.

Equality – such madness.

Tolerance – not to be tolerated.

Left swaying in the breeze.

Human nature seems to not want these qualities. They are murdered whenever they rear their heads.

Equality

Something’s gotta change.

This racial divide is despicable.

This use of violence intolerable.

This inequality reprehensible.

This has gone on

For far too long.

People need to act.

That’s a fact!

The level of racism in the country is incredible.

Indefensible.

Incomprehensible!

The Black Lives Matter campaign should not be happening.

Not in 2020.

The fact that racism is still so prevalent is a sign of a sick society.

America is the richest country on the planet – and the most unequal!

Something has got to change.

It starts with education.

Equality

It seems equality doesn’t come naturally,

We behave far too tribally,

That life is not a meritocracy

So we have to struggle to make it be.

But nothing happens immediately.

We’ve had this same struggle down the centuries.

For we humans are all one family.

The aim is treat all people fairly.

I’m optimistic

We’ll get it right eventually.
