Roy Harper – Burn The World

Humans are insane.

Out of selfishness and greed they are prepared to literally burn the world.

We have one world – our water world. It has taken billions of years of evolution to create this interwoven web of life. We are busy disassembling it for profit. Not only that but many of us find great glee in this wanton destruction.

Then we have the moronic brainwashed evangelists who believe that the planet, and all living things, were given to us to use how we like. They even welcome this destruction because they believe it brings us closer to ‘the end of days’. They are truly insane.

Nobody ever expresses it better than Roy.

How I miss those concerts, those talks, those exchanges. A breath of sanity amid this madness!

All One

All One

All from one –

                A single cell –

                                Sipping magic

From the infinite well.

A unique fire,

                Within a sea,

                                Exploding outwards,

Producing we.

Expanding force,

                So unique.

                                A display of art,

Full of mystique.

From chemical

                To awareness.

                                Its insane beauty

Could not prepare us.

In all the worlds

                Throughout all time

                                Was never a creation

So divine.

Covering the surface

                Of this jewel;

                                All from one

And one from all.

Life – the biggest, greatest, most wonderful spectacle in the whole universe.

Life. Starting just once.

From that magic cell, across billions of years, spreading like a forest fire, it rampaged across the planet to fill every nook and cranny.

Life. A mystery of wonder. The most unlikely event.

Just once.

Mutating to create every more elaborate form – ever more wondrous art.

Evolving.

Seeing, hearing, touching, feeling. Giving purpose to the universe.

Without us nothing is perceived. The wonders unappreciated.

Our joy and privilege is to perceive. Nothing more.

We are the eyes of the universe.

A happy accident.

All from one.

And we are but a tiny part of it all.

Poetry – How many trees?

How many trees?

How many trees does it take

To make a human being?

How many fields to fill our stomachs

So we can go on breathing?

How many creatures lie

Under our tarmac roads?

How many deaths will it take

Before the planet implodes?

Yes – how many trees does it take?

There are currently approaching 8 billion of us on this planet and each one of us is busy consuming – consuming land, water, air, finite mineral resources and killing plants and animals. Just by living.

The planet is not infinite. It is a finite web of life – tenuous and fragile.

We are a catastrophe.

Poetry – The Price of Everything

The Price of Everything

Everything has a price –

From a pen to a kidney;

From a baby to a new knee.

If you have the money

You can buy anything –

From a woman to a gold ring;

From a tree to a bird’s wing.

You can buy the land,

The water – even blood.

From a book to a life;

A trinket to a wife.

You can purchase an elephant

Or an elegant diamond stud.

Everything has a price –

From a new heart to a glove;

From a pin to simulation of love.

With enough cash

You can buy everything.

You can set out a new city

Lay it out and plane it.

The one thing you can’t afford

Is a new planet.

Opher – 23.1.2021

We are bought and sold.

Nothing is sacred.

There is nothing that cannot be bought.

The rarer something is the greater its price.

The last elephant tusk will be bought and sold.

Your daughters have a price.

Your life is cheap.

We consume and consume. There is no limit, no rationale, no control.

We consume our souls, our world and every creature and living organism around us.

We are on a sealed unit hurtling through space.

There is no life-raft.

We are buying and selling the very thing we depend on to stay afloat.

We cannot buy another.

Once it’s gone it’s gone.
