Poetry – So Much More

So Much More

It is so much more.

In the incredible dream of life,

Adrift within wonder,

Amid a zillion zillion stars

We also live within the greater mystery

Of the whole of nature.

For as marvellous as a galaxy

Is the splendour

Of a single cell.

Biology is a wonder; to study the mystery of life; to cherish the plants and animals which we are part of; what could be more exhilarating?

Australia – South West Rocks

We arrived in the evening and had a quick look around before setting up home. The bay was inviting. Plenty of wildlife. Looks great.

Australia – Newcastle – Wildlife Photos

Respect for nature. It’s beautiful, exhilarating and gives us life. We’re part of this wondrous spectrum of life.

Poetry – Sunsets  and Rainbows

Sunsets  and Rainbows

Sunsets and rainbows

Are poems in the sky.

Forests and Oceans

The tales of where and why.

There are stories in the rocks

And paintings in the clouds,

Dancing in the flower meadows

Music from the crowds.

The symphonies they produce

Paint murals in the skull

The operas of the universe

Never considered dull.

Life is wondrous and nature is so amazing. Its beauty and immensity is more splendiferous than any works of man. All we can do is marvel at it.

Australia – Macquarie Lake – patterns of bark, eggs, termites, birds and urchins.

Ain’t nature great?? To think we’re just a tiny cog in this mighty machine. Nature is art.

Australia – Lake Macquarie, The rare Powerful Owl.

We were incredibly lucky to stumble upon this huge beautiful bird. It was a bit startled and annoyed but it tolerated us for a few minutes.

Poetry – Sacred Ground

Sacred Ground

Once it’s gone it can’t come back.

Sacred ground,

Desecrated,

Ripped and torn.

Lies abound!

Bit by bit,

Under concrete

Dead and gone.

Chopped and shot,

Poisoned and mauled,

Short and long,

Raised to the ground.

Life once plentiful

Now is scarce,

Decimated,

Most profound,

Vestiges

Clinging onto

Desecrated,

Sacred ground.

When I was young the world was full of life, jungles were unexplored, Africa teemed with creatures. My back yard was full of butterflies and bees, the ditches had sticklebacks, newts and frogs, hedgehogs came to call.

Nature is sacred ground. It is profound. It is being decimated.

The music of crickets? This is unbelievable.

This is amazing – get past the first bit and forget the silly name. Who would believe slowed down cricket chirping could be so ethereally beautiful??

This is nature. They live life at a different speed to us.

Poetry – No Games

No Games

The eagle plays no games

As she soars on the winds

Life is quite simple:

To eat or to starve;

To mate or to perish.

She takes what she finds.

Her skill is all that informs her survival.

Her strength determines

Her or a rival.

Opher 24.6.2019

Nature is simple and cruel. There is little intrigue or politics. What you see is what you get. It is simply a battle for survival and to pass on your genes to the next generation. So basic. If you fail you die.

There is also majesty to it. Unlike most of our existence it is completely real. Our civilisation has divorced us from nature. We think we are not subject to the same laws anymore. Our lives aren’t battles for survival. We’ve opted for safety and comfort.

I wonder what we gave up on the way?

Art and Flowers in Sydney Harbour Park – Photos

I’m a sucker for nature and art. Two in one.
