My Weird Surreal Sixties Book – Reality Dreams – Chapter 35 – Lost it

Have you had enough of this weird rambling book? You’re very quiet.

I was about twenty three when I wrote this section. I already thought that I was well past it. My wild years were behind me. I had a child a wife and a job. It was hardly the life I’d been living.

35.

‘Hey Messny, is it true?’

‘Did we walk through the city in shining dreams?’

‘Did we claw our way down alleys while sinking into the depths of mental exhaustion? Was it really us that did all that and woke the next day to recover and start all over again?’

‘Did we head into those all-night caves to groove to the beat and urge those cats to give it up? Howlin’ with that guitar, stomping to that monstrous rhythm and living those words?’

‘Did we rap and laugh, and rap, and laugh, and smoke, and dream, and shout, and rap, and talk – yabber yabber yabber?’

‘Did we blow our minds in cold flats, wrapped in blankets, playing music, rapping, dreaming, sharing all we had?’

‘Did we not care for anything but truth, revelation, crazy and madness?’

‘Hey Messny – look at the depths we’ve reached.

‘Hey Messny – why was it so important to live wild and free, more important than life? Why so quick? Why so much experience to be burnt up and used? To share sex and eplode into the night? To hear the wail of fellow travellers on the same journey into their souls, liberating their spirits and screaming pure joy at the heavens!’

‘Why do things become so tarnished by repetition?’

‘Hey – but I’m not so far down as you. I’ll catch you up.’

‘We’ve learnt too much Messny – to believe anything again. And there’s still so much more to learn that we don’t have to believe in.’

‘We didn’t believe in anything, did we Messny? We believed in it all!’

‘We despised the system and laughed in the faces of all those playing the game, above the greed and selfish stupidity. We had our eyes set on higher goals, didn’t we Messny?’

‘It’s quieter now and we don’t have to shout so much in order to make ourselves believe that we were right.’

‘There’s no hurry anymore. We’re already dead. We can take our time and study each bit of the lie. There’s no rush. We can still wonder at the beauty.’

‘Maybe there’s still some juice left in the tank and we can walk through the city again, arm in arm, singing the old peons of rebellion and pretending?’
