The Corona Diaries – Day 39

Thirty nine days in isolation. My sniffles are less today. Maybe the pollen count is a bit down?

There is now becoming a real discussion about how we are going to get out of this. As soon as the lockdown ends there will be more food for the virus to feed on – in the form of human beings. Will there be a vaccine in a year’s time? Do we have to stay isolated for a year?

Will there be effective drug treatments so we do not have to worry about getting it?

The problem is clearly that a percentage of people who get the virus die. But worse than that a greater number – between ten and twenty percent – require intensive care! That is a huge number and a huge risk.

The worry is that there might not be a vaccine that works. People might go down with the disease a number of times. They might never get immunity.

It seems to me that the only way of dealing with this is to get the numbers of cases right down through isolation. Then, when people are allowed out to test everyone first and to follow up all contacts of everybody in contact. That’s a mammoth task. I have no faith in this hapless government getting on top of things in the way Germany has. We still have no protective gear and far too little testing. Complacency and lies!!

It is with amazement I watch the scenes in many parts of the States (drummed up by Trump) who want the lockdown to end and for them to get back to work. The idiots are still saying that the disease is a democratic hoax or fake news – despite the mass graves being dug in Central Park. They are ignoring all social distancing. They deserve everything they get. Maybe this virus will weed out those who are ignorant and stupid as well as the old and those with underlying problems?

Today I have been playing Bert Jansch. A great guitarist and songwriter.

We went for our walk down the Beck.  The sky was blue and sun shone but there was a mean cold wind. It certainly blew away all the cobwebs! It was still beautiful!

Homemade bread and cheese for lunch! Delicious!

In the afternoon I painted the hall!

If this goes on much longer I might have to paint the whole bloody house!

Anyway – stay safe!! This isolation is not too bad at all. I’m getting quite used to it. The good thing about being retired is that you don’t have to worry about losing your job!

  1. Hi, Opher! Glad to hear you guys are still safe and hunkered down. I was appalled by those insane rallies by alt-right groups in the US and the idiot-in-chief’s tweets supporting them. Perhaps the virus will target the stupid and leave the elderly alone. We live in hope. Enjoy your painting. I envy your spring weather – we’ve had a very cold April with snow flurries the last three days. Peace, my friend!

    1. Hi John, good to hear from you. I hope you are safe and isolated. It looks like this scenario is likely to go on for a long time!
Those people are ignorant, gung-ho and just plain stupid. Trump is inciting them to kill themselves. I think a good segment of America has gone completely nuts! They sure are not distancing and isolating. They’ll pay a heavy price, I’m sure.
Not sure I’m enjoying the painting but I do like the finished product!
The weather here has been tremendous. I’ve been working on setting up a Ron Forsythe Sci-fi writer blog and putting my best Sci-fi books up on it. It’s going to be a new start!! Wish me luck!
