Nick harper Book – The Wilderness Years

I have now completed the book. It has been through its eighth rewrite, thoroughly edited and the photos all annotated and placed. It was quite a task.

I then went down to Wiltshire to share it with Nick. I wanted him to be totally happy with what was in it. He has given a great deal of his time and contributed a number of photos and I did not want him to feel it was not right. I think he was embarrassed by some of the things I have said about him – he is a modest man – but liked what has come out at the end.

I wanted a book that was entertaining and revealing. A lot of Nick’s songs are very personal but contain the philosophy that rules his life. I wanted to illuminate how that ethos pervades all his work. I think it does that.

The book was intended to be a companion to the triple vinyl album set. That has been out a while but this is still relevant.

The book is now being professionally designed and laid-out. It will then go to the publishers.

It should be out this Autumn!!  I’m excited!!

  1. Excellent news. I first met Nick in 84, when he came to Derbyshire with his Dad, June 6th, for a gig at the Rockhouse I had organised. After that I saw him quite a few times once he started playing with his Dad. I still get out to see him when I can. He is a great talent, and his own man (not trading on his Dad.) He is also a nice guy. First time I met him I sensed he viewed me with suspicion (we are the same age, why was I organising gigs for his Dad?) I ended up choosing another path to trying to make a living in the music world. He has done the music thing. It cannot be an easy ride, and he has my total respect. I hope he no longer views me with suspicion!

    1. I don’t think Nick views anyone with suspicion. He seems so open and warm. A really nice guy. I’m sure he would not be suspicious of you.
I agree with you. It is not easy being the offspring of a great musician. Nick has never traded on his relationship to Roy and has forged his own direction. I have great respect for what he does.
I didn’t know you promoted Roy gigs. What are you up to now/

    1. Ofir – love the name. The book is still in production. Taking much longer than expected but should be with us soon! Sorry you’ve had to wait.
