Naïve Dreams
The idealism of the sixties was subverted from inside and out, its naïve dream exposed as a pipe-dream. But the philosophy that originated in those idealistic days lives on. It sowed the seeds for the Environmental movement, the Women’s movement, Civil Rights, anti-war and an era of liberalism, tolerance and equality.
There is much to oppose and while a dream of a new society is still a long way off much of the philosophy was good, pragmatic and liberating.
I think society is all the better for it.
Looking back you can see big business and the establishment moving in to take their profit. You can see the rich kids donning the costume and looking to muscle in and make a buck or two.
What started as community, street-culture, became fashion and mainstream.
I still live by the idealism of my youth. I do not trust the establishment and I value my freedom.
They were very positive, enthusiastic days. I’m glad I was part of it.
Naïve Dreams
A naïve dream of innocence
Flowing downstream
Towards the rocks
Of reality.
Those that run
The business
Exploited
The essence of Alice
In her Wonderland
And made it very small.
Pretentious posers
From Public Schools
Preening and pandering
To re-impose
The establishment
From the inside
To prove
The world is not run on
Equality.

If only we could turn that clock back, You had more experiences in the sixties than I could ever have, but looking back they were the best times, the young cared and made changes. The rich, the p…ks will always be in charge. Look how they are trying to destroy Jeremy Corbyn. I, too would never trust the establishment, just wish I had been more of a part of the sixties.
Corbyn might yet surprise them. The sixties was a naive dream but it was a great optimistic, free time to be young. I revelled in it!
I wish I had the freedom you experienced, but I did what I was told, bloody fool that I am. Yes, totally agree Jeremy Corbyn may yet surprise them, I rejoined the Labour Party because of him.
Me too. I have to keep reminding myself that he’s a politician too. He’ll probably let us down even if the establishment and media don’t manage to stitch him up.
Oh, I have no doubts they will stitch him up, they are at it right now. The Tories are scared of him, I don’t think he will let us down God I sincerely hope he will not. I am old Labour and proud working class, from Irish background and always had it made clear to me from school to work to living here “you are not one of us” ie true English if there is such a thing now, my hangup hate the class system.
Let’s hope he comes through. I think he’s got integrity which is more than I can say for any of the other lying, cheating gits – they’d sell their principles and granny for a vote.
Opher it has been brilliant reading all your responses this afternoon, keeping one eye on the rugby, still not the same England out. Yes, I hate all those “upper class bastards” who think they know it all and destroy so many people in the process. They have no principles.
I haven’t got a bit of work done! It’s all been a bit mad at this end.
Missed the Rugby result, bet you were a fantastic Teacher. Can’t stop following you now can I.
I enjoyed teaching. It’s the greatest and most important job on the planet (I’m biased – I’m sure surgeons would disagree). It was a privilege to be exposed to all those outstanding young minds. They taught me a lot.
I am sure they will never forget you and all you taught them. I had a wonder English Teacher, she is long gone but I still feel so fondly for Miss Tombe. You were able to shape young minds they will not forget.
There’s a few who might not but I got on brilliantly with the kids. They were a great bunch and they managed to put up with me.
Just think of all you have achieved.
I do. I wish I had done more. Now I’m busy selling fifteen book s a month! It’s hardly changing the world is it?
Wow, how do you do it.
I don’t know. I’m not sure what I’m doing!
