Pelicans in Peru – Photos

We were heading off to the Ballesteros islands and had a boat leaving from a fishing port. There were numerous pelicans hanging around scrounging fish off the fishing fleet.

Poetry – Nature

I wrote this one yesterday. It seems to fit with the one before which I wrote five years ago.

Nature

Cauterised, sterilised

Manicured and tamed.

Pulverised, terrified,

Massacred and maimed.

Caged, manacled,

Tied up and chained,

Flattened butchered

Castrated and drained.

Nature in this century

Always on the run.

Treated like the enemy

And tortured for fun.

People in this modern world

Losing their connection.

Senseless and callous

Bereft of all direction.

The planet used to be an interconnecting web of different habitats, each different and rich in number and variety. It was a web that we were part of.

That web is now broken up by fields, roads and towns. It no longer connects.

We are no longer part of it.

Nature has become something to be conquered and tamed.

The wildlife is driven back, the swamps drained, the forests cleared and the seas dredged.

The creatures are driven out. Those we find, the remnants, are poisoned, butchered or tormented for fun.

We know longer have purpose. We think we are above everything.

I fear there will be a terrible reckoning

Catching Cayman on the Amazon

We went out at night in a canoe shining a torch around us. When the light shone on a creature two red eyes shone back on us. There were some big one.

We chose some that weren’t too big and slowly paddled up close, leaned over and grabbed them, trying not to be bitten!

Great fun.

Peru – Into the Amazon Rainforest.

As we flew into the airfield we could see huge swathes of rainforest that has already been chopped down.

We boarded a boat and headed off down the river. All around us was thick rainforest full of bird cries, teeming with life.

These forests are the lungs of the world.

Peru – The Ballestas Islands – wildlife – Photos

The Ballestas Islands are a group of islands off the coast of Peru. They are a wildlife refuge, They are sometimes called the Galapagos of Peru.

On the way out on the boat we passed the ancient symbol in the desert sand known as the candelabra.

Cambodia – The river communities – photos

The ride down the tributary towards the great lake was quite long. We passed many fishing villages, houses on stilts, fishing boats and friendly people waving as we passed.

The river level rose dramatically in the rainy season and the land all around was flooded.

South West Rocks, lighthouse, bays, views and wildlife. Fabulous!! Photos.

Hiking through the outback is hot but very rewarding. So many beautiful views from the cliff-tops. The rocky shores and bays bathed in sunshine. So many colourful birds in the trees, Kangaroos sprawling in the shade, FABULOUS!

Out in the Australian Bush – Photos

There was so much to see around the South West Rocks. Th wildlife was amazing and I never get fed up with those incredible nectar producing Australian flowers. They have adapted to be pollinated by birds and produce oodles of sweet nectar.

Colourful Australian birds, beaches, trees and bark. Photos.

Everywhere around in Australia there is a preponderance of wildlife. It is so colourful. Fabulous rocky beaches and picturesque bays with yellow sand and sunshine.

Newcastle Australia – A pair of tawny frogmouths

These incredible birds are nocturnal hunters. I caught them roosting in this tree. They look a bit like owls but are related to nightjars.
