Coming out of the Taroko gorge we found ourselves up in the mountains. There was a pagoda and temple up in the mountains with a large gold or white buddha.

The Taroko gorge is one of the marvels of Taiwan. It wends through steep mountains with spectacular views. Narrow roads, tunnels and sheer drops. Fabulous.

We were heading for the famous gorge. The route took us up into the mountains past picturesque pagodas and gold Buddhas

Taiwan – Out to the far end of the island. Fire out of the ground and forts.

We travelled to the far end and the sea, up into the hills and down into the valleys. We found a place where fire came out of the ground and discovered an old fort.

Taoist God at Lotus Lake – Taiwan

The Lotus Lake felt like a cross between Disneyland and Chinese religions. They like their stuff big and gaudy. The Taoist status was just that. The whole place felt a bit plastic and shoddy – though interesting.
