There is a lot more to Petra than just the wonderful Treasury. It is a large site. You need a couple of days to see everything – and everything is worth seeing.
The incredible thing is that this is probably just 10% of what is there. Most of the city has not been excavated.
We set off to have a walk around.
All around us there carved facades in the sandstone. It made me wonder. Were these the starts of new buildings that had not been hollowed out yet? Or were they simply there to impress?
The coloured sandstone and eroded shapes were spectacular.
There were lots of smaller ‘homes’ carved into the rocks.
The amphitheatre was great. I wondered what type of meetings went on in that arena? Meetings? Spectacles? Music? Theatre? Fights?
I loved the colours and striations.
People, camels, asses – all wandering over the site.
