Losing all faith in Democracy

I don’t really want democracy at all. I’ve had it!

How, in a modern world of such incredible complexity, can the average person be expected to make ant kind of informed decision??

When half of the population have an IQ below average (below 100) how can they be expected to understand the really difficult issues?

When the education system fails to inform or create thinking individuals how can they weigh up the possibilities?

When we have a media and social media churning out misinformation, conspiracy and propaganda that ignorant people accept as fact how can democracy work?

When we have billionaires pulling the strings and creating a corrupt system, manipulating peoples’ views how can we have democracy?

Democracy depends on having intelligent, well-informed individuals, debating, researching and coming to informed decisions.

What we have is an unintelligent population, largely uneducated, blinded with religion, inflamed with racism and nationalism, manipulated by powerful politicians and billionaires, voting for their own impoverishment and imprisonment.

Having seen the way the population was swayed towards Brexit, Trump, Farage and Johnson (Oban, Meloni, Bolsonaro and Wilders) I am losing all hope.

Democracy is a sham.

We are being controlled by a small elite of greedy, selfish billionaires.

The whole world is being run for the benefit of a few!

Democracy:

a multi-headed beast with many names

Whose nutrition

Is truth.

Now an emaciated skeleton

Sustained on crumbs,

Starved of calories,

Barely alive.

Caught between spin and lies,

Tactics and cynical deceit,

In corporations

Loaded with

Political dupes,

Papers deployed

As weapons,

The truth

Is strangled to death.

Rarely a vote that counts.

Never a tabloid

Without propaganda.

Without the truth

We are denied

A choice.

With sufficient hypocrisy

And spin

You could get ordinary folk

To believe anything.

Back in the days before every man had a vote (long before women were deemed competent) they panicked. The pressure was mounting.

Only the wealthy could vote.

It was thought that once the ordinary people were given a vote the life of luxury and privilege would be snatched away. People would vote for a fairer society, a more equitable division of wealth.

There was panic in the wealthy elite.

They came up with a solution. It was called propaganda.

He who controls the media controls the truth.

Fear-mongering, lies and smear became the tools of the trade.

With sufficient hypocrisy and spin you could get ordinary folk to believe anything.

                Sacrificed for power!

                                Deliberately undermined

to create Trump’s finest hour!

A populist ploy

                To bring the experts down.

                                Now people believe

the lies of a clown.

Bleating fake news,

                pumping propaganda;

                                deploying racist lies

to make a fool even grander.

Who needs evidence

                when you have the word of Trump?

                                Elections stolen

to re-elect a chump!

Piling democracy

                on the raging fire.

                                Flames consume truth

on equality’s funeral pyre.

Are people that stupid that they can’t see they are being played?? So it seems.

All across the world the grubby fascist populist politicians play from the same play book. They deliberately undermine the truth, promote racism and xenophobia, drum up fear for jobs, blame scapegoats, highlight threats and promise the earth.

Once in office they set about creating a totalitarian state, stifling the opposition, controlling the media, introducing corruption and sleaze and lining their nests. They oppress, suppress and bask in their power.

They lie, cheat and use violence and fear to control.

Populists thrive on fear, division and hatred.

They are all, to one degree or another, tainted with the same totalitarian brush:

Johnson, Bolsonaro, Modi, Oban, Trump, Erdogan, Putin, Jinping, Le Pen, Meloni, Jong-un, Netanayuh.
