Initial impressions are that the port of Salalah does not have an awful lot going for it. It looked quite barren, deserted and boring. There did not seem to be anybody around. Camels were wandering around.
I lived and worked in Salalah for two years, 2011–2013, and I can assure you there is quite a lot going on, particularly during the busy summer Khareef season when the mountains surrounding the city come alive in shades of other worldly green. There are also gorgeous beaches to the east and west of town with flamingos and, yes, more camels also enjoying the sea view and sunning themselves. It’s a fascinating place and culture, very different from northern Oman where I lived for six years.
That’s good to hear Henry. I thought that would be the case but it was very difficult to see just passing through. I’d like to have seen it when all that desert sprouted green. We did visit the beaches. They were beautiful. I’ll put up some photos.
The camels were cute!
Yes – I do like camels.
