Poetry – The Rain

The Rain

Today the rain came,

The dust was doused.

The patchwork of parched clay,

Cracked in hexagonal patterns,

Melted into mud.

Today roots sucked water

So wilted leaves became firm,

As green plants

Were revitalised

And shone with new vigour.

Today animals gratefully drank

Gulping down water

To slake thirst

And remove

The desperate need.

Today the rains came,

The liquid of life,

The solvent of chemistry,

The medium which enables

Miracles.

Today it rained.
