Aung San Suu Kyi – a poem

Aung San Suu Kyi

Aung San Suu Kyi

What is wrong with thee?

Don’t you care about the Rohingya?

Are you now a prisoner?

Why did you change?

I find it really strange.

Once you were so fair

And now you simply do not care.

Do the Generals pull your strings?

Have they clipped off your wings?

Or has power eaten up your mind?

Leaving no hint of compassion behind?

Once you were showered with acclaim

Now you should hang your head in shame.

Oxford have rejected you

Because your behaviour will not do.

Once you stood for justice in the future

Now you condone rape and torture.

Did power go straight to your head?

Or do Generals control every word that’s said?

Aung San Suu Kyi

What is wrong with thee?

  1. I don’t understand why she could be standing by allowing all whats happening. All those years a Prisoner in her own home, all she was, she was pretending for the World? Terrible. I enjoyed this post, thanks Opher.

    1. No I don’t understand it either Anna. I’m not sure if the Generals are leaning on her, if the power’s gone to her head or if she was always a scheming nasty piece of work. We might never know.
