Kurt Vonegut Quotes

Kurt is one of my favourite writers. I love his wit, easy flowing style and great ideas. He is a man with great humanity. I like that.

Here’s a few quotes that I found fun and insightful:

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.
We do become the sort of person we try to be. We have to be careful who we ally ourselves to.
I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don’t let anybody tell you different.
That sums up my philosophy too. We have no purpose.
I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center.
That’s kind of edgy.
I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”
A great philosophy. We rarely take enough note of how good things are most of the time. We populate our comfort and happiness with imaginary fears.
Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion. I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward.
The best medicine.
Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt.
That is most of the time I’ve lived!!
A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.
Another great philosophy!!
Here we are, trapped in the amber of the moment. There is no why.
Best make the most of each and every moment we have. It all goes much too fast.
True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.
They are only flawed people pretending to know more than the rest of us – no brighter, no better – and in most cases a lot nastier!
Maturity is a bitter disappointment for which no remedy exists, unless laughter can be said to remedy anything.
The innocence and unrelenting hope of childhood! If only!
