Chapter 12 – Life goes on
As the days dragged into a week life went on. The interminable days were filled with police, media, family and friends. Every call and knock sent the nerves jangling, every lonely night brought floods of silent tears. Liz cried silently so the kids would not hear.
But life went on and they adjusted to the new reality. Liz put pressure on the police to do more and started to use the media to do positive things in the hope that something would turn up. She did not give up hope and she used her intelligence. It was just that there were no leads. They all drew a blank.
Our mothers talked of having to return home, friends were calling in less and it was becoming clear that the kids should return to school. The police activity had moved into a lower level and media interest had waned. The world had returned to normal. But there was no normality for my family and it felt like there never would be again. They had been blown apart by my disappearance.
The uncertainty was the worst bit, by far the worst.
