I’ve just been offered infinity!

I have just been offered infinity over the phone.

At first I thought it was ISIS phoning or maybe the Jehovah’s Witnesses but it wasn’t. Infinity is quite an offer. I mean that is no short-term thing.

Did I really want infinity?

I mean what would you do forever? It could end up becoming tedious.

I love my dead parents and liked seeing them. But I remember that even after a day or two we could start getting on each other’s nerves. Forever is quite a big concept. We might end up arguing!

Then there’s the offer of Heaven. I mean hanging around in heaven all eternal day praising and singing. That might get on my nerves.

Then what if it was paradise? The idea of fifty three virgins sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Even twenty four could be a bit trying. And all they perpetual virgins? And where did they come from? and why virgins anyway? No I’d definitely prefer just a few with a lot more experience!

So there was a lot going through my mind as I listened to the young lady. It was when she informed me she was from BT (British Telecom) that I twigged that it was no fundamentalist group.

I immediately called her a liar.

I mean the service might be an improvement on what I already had – fibre optics is immensely preferable – but infinity it is not!

The long and short of it is that I have signed up.

The good thing is that I get a brand new hub and a much better service with great download speed (though far from infinite).

The bad news is that I have to wait until next Wednesday week. That is another week of wading through treacle and not being able to open emails.

I think BT is probably a religious order. They certainly make you pay now for promises of future rewards!

  1. Infinity and beyond! Whatever that means. I saw a license plate on an Infinity car once that said, “N BEYOND” I know the guy on Toy Story said it. But what exactly is beyond infinity?

    1. good question – and I’m certain there’s some other life-forms out there that perhaps could give good answer.

    2. According to the polyverse theory there is possibly a whole infinite series of infinite universes. Would they all be beyond infinity?
On the other hand – if you start from the Bib Bang – the event horizon of our universe is the expanding edge spreading out at the speed of light. What is outside of that is probably beyond infinity.

      1. I just don’t think there is a beyond infinity, because infinity is infinity. I used to ask my mom this very question as far back as I can remember – probably 4. I think infinity even includes that space beyond all universes. Haha. Unanswerable.

      2. Yeah – you’re right. There’s only one infinity. Just possibly an infinite number of versions. It’s boggling when you start thinking about it.

      3. Yeah, an infinite number of versions. I like that. I remember being sort of anxious/excited by it as a child. Now, I can just let it boggle and not mind.

      4. Oh that day I discovered infinity still lives with me. I’ve written about it a number of times. I fell into the sky.

  2. The only trouble I can see is that every point would be equally far from any other point, including the post! Whatever direction.
