I got into Loudon very early on. His first album had just come out. There was a Guru Maharaji shop down the road. His devotees were being encouraged to bring in all their worldly goods (including signing over their houses) and go to live in an Ashram on brown rice in order to support his pent-house suite and fleet of limos.
I would see young people heading past with heaps of albums to donate to the shop. I would follow behind and buy up all the good ones.
I’ve always regretted that. In a way I was contributing to the Guru’s religiously acquired wealth.
Anyway – They were playing that first album in the shop and I loved the sound of it and bought it. I’ve been a fan ever since. I’ve seen him live many times. I like his humour.
This song is kind of how I see myself. This blog is about communicating anything that I feel. There’s no filters. Some of my friends ask me why I reveal so much of myself. I dunno. They ask me why I feel the need to put it out there. I dunno. They think I could be sunning myself with a martini rather than writing all this. I could. I might do that in a minute. Some people are concerned. They think my views on barbaric militant Islam – ISIS and the rest, is dangerous. That’s life. Some think that putting out such dissimilar views on – the environmental, antitheist, Rock Music, literature, Art, poetry, politics, my books etc. merely confuses people. I ought to stick to one theme. I don’t care. Some say I should lighten up – I’m too serious. There’s a lot of serious stuff out there. There’s no time to be superficial! Life’s too short. Some say that you can never change people or the world. I say bullshit. People have. There’s no harm in trying.
So this is my blog. I play by my rules. I do what I like. I know that is not the best way to promote things but it’s me. What you see is what you get. I said at the beginning – it’s the marmite of blogs. You might like one bit but another will piss you off. We’re complex people. I say – I will tolerate your views, enjoy arguing and respect you, even if you are diametrically opposed to everything I stand for!
I think that’s fair.
Parts of this song I relate to strongly.
One Man Guy
People will know when they see this show the kind of a
Guy I am.
They’ll understand just what I stand for, and what I
Just can’t stand.
They’ll perceive what I believe in and what I know is
True,
And they’ll recognise I’m a one man guy; always was
Through and through.
Yeah, I’m a one man guy in the morning, I’m the same in
The afternoon.
One man guy when the sun goes down, I whistle me a one
Man tune.
A one man guy.
One man guy, only kinda guy to be.
I’m a one man guy.
I’m a one man guy, and that one man is me.
I’m a one man guy.
People meditate, hey that’s just great- trying to find
An inner you.
People depend on family and friends and other folks to
Get you through.
I don’t know why I’m a one man guy, or why this is a
One man show,
But these three cubic feet of bone and blood and meat
Are what I love and know.
‘Cause I’m a one man guy in the morning, I’m the same
In the afternoon.
One man guy when the sun goes down, I whistle me a one
Man tune.
One man guy.
One man guy, only kinda guy to be.
I’m a one man guy.
I’m a one man guy, and that one man is me.
I’m a one man guy.
I’m gonna bathe and shave and dress myself and eat solo
Everynight.
Unplug the phone and sleep alone, stay right out of
Sight.
Sure it’s kinda lonely, yeah it’s sort of sick.
Being your own one and only is a selfish dirty trick.
But I’m a one man guy in the morning, I’m the same in
The afternoon.
One man guy when the sun goes down, I whistle me a one
Man tune.
One man guy.
One man guy, only kinda guy to be.
I’m a one man guy.
I’m a one man guy, and that one man is me.
I’m a one man guy.
