Just imagine if we were to segregate our schools on political grounds. If it was suggested that we had a Communist institute, A Fascist college, A Labour school, a Tory School, A Green School ……. There would be uproar and talk of bias, indoctrination and brain-washing. Why is it different with religion?
The whole concept of Faith Schools is flawed. It pandas to the wishes of parents but does a great deal of harm.
I believe that it is child abuse to brain wash children with religion. This is precisely what these schools wish to do.
To allow the crack-pot ideas of Creationism to have any credence by allowing them to run some of our schools is obscene. These American fundamentalists are itching to get their hands on our children’s minds.
To allow Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Protestants and Catholics to be segregated away and not brought up in schools where they are bathed in British values of tolerance, dissent, freedom, empathy, shared history and justice is a recipe for religious conflict and fanaticism.
We need our children fully integrated with respect for others and the pluralistic nature of our society. We do not need brain-washed fanatics with hatred for other cultures and creeds.
We seem intent on fuelling ISIS, anti-Semitic, ghettos, segregation and narrow-mindedness.
All our schools should be enriched by diversity. It removes distrust and misunderstanding.
We need an new integrated positive zeitgeist. Let’s do away with medieval superstition and if nothing else protect our children from its insidious clutches.
