As the water levels can rise twenty feet the houses have to either float or be built on long stilts. We passed floating towns.

It’s a nomadic community that lives on the river! Some build more permanent homes. I imagine there’s a lot of moving about!

As we drifted along I imagined myself living this life, simpler in many ways, much more basic, precarious, hard work. I think I might have enjoyed it. Perhaps more real.

As we went slowly down the river we had a glimpse into the lives of other people. It puts your life in perspective.

The waters rise and flood the land. The houses are all on stilts. It makes the land extremely fertile and the river teems with fish. Unfortunately, the families of the fisherfolk have grown. Commercial enterprises have moved in. It is incredibly overfished to unsustainable levels.

We continued down the river and had to stop at a small shack which was border control to have our passports stamped.
