The Corona Diaries – Day 572

It’s been an up and down day. The sky overcast and dour. Contrary to the meteorological report it’s been raining all afternoon. Fortunately I went for my walk in the morning so I didn’t get wet. Tomorrow looks miserable though. Still, I perked myself up with the thought that we’ve probably only got six months of this before the sun returns. That’s something to look forward to!

Why did we leave Africa in the first place???? Was it the spiders??

Today I’ve been playing the Who Live At Leeds – what a great album. So full of energy.

I’ve been writing my Captain Beefheart book. It’s slow going. Takes forever. I’m enjoying it though. I’ve always listened to the songs but I’ve never studied them in so much depth. Fabulous. He was a genius. They are so complex.

Feeling a bit battered. I received two more reviews on the Harper book. One was a 5 star – all full of praise and euphoria – but the other was a two star castigation. It made me depressed to read it. You can’t please everyone but I thought it was unfair. That niggles.

I got banned from Facebook for calling Boris Johnson an inept twat. It appears that there is a new climate out there. Criticising our mighty leader is hate speech. I find this a bit strange. I’ve called him far worse in the past. Maybe, since the terrible murder of the Tory MP they are going to really clamp down on protest. Saying negative things about our politicians will be eradicated. Scary. I notice they didn’t do much with the horrendous murder of Jo Cox – but then, she was Labour wasn’t she? It appears that someone has complained to Facebook about me. I’m public enemy number 1. He didn’t like my political rants.

Tough – I stand up for the abused and ill-treated. This government is hammering the poor, destroying public services, wrecking the country and giving away billions to the wealthy. It needs saying.

I shall continue to call out politicians for their incompetence, racism, victimisation of the poor and general corruption. I expect that soon I’ll be banned from twitter and wordpress. Freedom of speech will go along with the other liberties this government is taking away – our ability to protest in the street, freedom of travel.

I’ll defend the removal of all posts that are racist, encourage violence or hostility. They should be gone. But criticism of our overlords seems perfectly justified to me. These clowns have killed thousands of people with their inept handling of covid. Their levels corruption and self-serving is in a category of their own. Their constant lies and unaccountability is in need of major exposure. They are a real danger to democracy. They are worse than Thatcher and that is really saying something. How are they getting away with it?

This is verging on totalitarianism. Breaking of laws, ignoring procedures, unaccountable, lying, a constant stream of propaganda. It’s extremely worrying. As Neimoller said:

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

We’re not there yet but I think it’s a slippery slope. I am a socialist and a trade unionist – I’ve got no chance.

Meanwhile, Out in Coronaland our incompetent, self-serving clown is beginning to panic again as the levels rise, the hospital entries rise and deaths go up. They thought that the vaccine would save their bacon after their disastrous start – but no – we’re by far the worst in Europe!!

The continent is watching us with a mixture of amusement and disbelief. They see the skill shortages, the empty shelves, rising prices, tax hikes and high covid cases and they think we are nuts. They are of the opinion that Boris Johnson and his cabinet are complete nincompoops who are utterly useless. They don’t know why we’re putting up with this. They are expecting protests in the streets, civil unrest and the polls to reflect the incompetent.

It’s a mystery why this bunch are still ahead. Unbelievable.

Today we saw the levels going up to 49,156 new cases with 57 deaths. They are getting concerned about the Delta variant plus – the Boris Johnson variant.

The government is following exactly the same pattern as before. They never, ever learn:

The are complacent

Do everything too fast or too slow

They complacently thought that the vaccine was going to solve the problem. It isn’t. The effectiveness is already wearing off. People who are double jabbed are already beginning to become vulnerable again.

They opened up too fast – again

They relaxed all the procedures – facemasks, social distancing etc too quickly – again

They complacently thought that the vaccine would prevent infections; that the virus was beaten – again

The lagged behind on vaccinating kids. Now kids are passing it around like crazy after the schools went back – too slow

They are lagging on the booster jabs for the elderly – too slow

It’s a repeating cycle of utter incompetence. The fools adopted a policy of uncontrolled spread in the mistaken belief that they were on top. They wanted the political kudos from it. Now if they go back to reintroducing measures and lockdowns (remember all that guff on irreversible actions) they will look like fools. Their popularity with plummet. They’ll be seen for the fools they are. So they’ll try to brazen it out no matter how many deaths. As long as the public tolerate their stupidity they’ll go on being stupid.

The public seem to be very tolerant of ineptitude.

The hope for the future may rest in the hands of the French. Their Valneva vaccine looks very promising. Do you think they might lovingly share it with us? Forget all the nasty stuff from these extreme Brexiteers?

I doubt it!

Stay safe we’re in the hands of the inmates of the funny farm

  1. Opher, you missed out a verse of Niemoller’s rant – about the Catholics. (He was a staunch Protestant).

So, you called Johnson an “inept twat?” That seems to me a gross understatement. And you were “banned” from Facebook as a result? The problem is with Facebook, not with you. As RAF pilots used to say, “if you’re getting flak, you’re near the target.”

Oh, and hello and welcome again, Tubularsock.

I'd like to hear from you...
