My bird-watching mate tells me it is a young robin with problems.
It was a bit big for a robin – almost the size of a thrush.
Well, somebody’s having a really bad moult. Maybe he/she’s not getting enough good food.
The beak and legs of an insect eater. Hmm.
It looked like a fledgeling. It seemed too big for a robin and I was bemused.
Linnet maybe?
A lot of birds have become dependent on our left-overs: crumbs, throw-aways. Now there’s no one about they are struggling to relearn to forage.
There are loads of pigeons around our way like that; they were almost fully dependent on people’s work lunch break snacks etc. Now there’s no work, they’re starving. We’ve fed the best we can, but we started getting swamped. Very tough denying them food.
This was in a nature reservation Michael.
It is quite sad what is happening to the wildlife. Lockdown was great – saw so much.
Don’t know if my previous message got through, but my twitcher mate Tony says it’s a young robin with a problem.

Hi John – It was quite a bit bigger than a robin though – quite weird.
Well Opher, maybe you get to name a new species. “Goodwin’s Puffball” might fit.
I’ll go with that! Not quite got round to reading your article yet. I will do. I just need to concentrate.
Not sure what kind of bird it is but it’s adorable!
Nobody seems to know what it is. It was very bold.
Try this Opher: https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/wildlife-guides/identify-a-bird/ There’s several filters you can use to help with identification.
Thanks Safar – I’ll give it a go!
Any luck with identification? I had a go myself, but drew a blank.
No Safar. I’ve looked through but I can’t find anything. People say it’s a moulting robin but I think it was too big. A little smaller than a blackbird. A mystery mutant robin perhaps?
It must be pregnant.
Lol!! Maybe that’s it. A pregnant Robin!
Well, VERY pregnant!
Probably with quins.
