Photography – China – Guilin with it’s magic mountains – the willow-pattern landscape.
The rock formations in Guilin were simply amazing. I had always thought that the willow pattern design was extremely stylised and was surprised to find it wasn’t. The mountains are actually like that!
China is an incredible place.

Hey Opher ~ incredible vistas, memorable sights, fascinating images of a landscape and way of life (almost) lost in time.
Another place on my ‘to do’ list.
Cheers,

Guilin was a bit out of the way – certainly unique!
Unique and almost other-worldly Opher: so very different from the modern, urbanised towns and cities across the U.K, which feel largely uniform and homogenised. Would it were we had similar regard for our ancestral past and distant heritage. Thankfully beautiful, unspoilt wildernesses still exist across the UK, as well as small, isolated villages, but whether one could call them unique – or quintessentially traditional – is another thing.
Knowing of such places in the world inspires one to travel and experience them first-hand.

I have just such an urge. When I was young we hitch-hiked and travelled around a bit but as soon as we had a family we were very short of cash and time. It wasn’t until we were older that we were able. In the last twelve years we’ve made up for lost time!
The world is a wonderful place. One of my other passions is photography!
I hear many similar stories to that of your own. Raising a family is a huge expense, but the rewards for doing so are priceless. It might also be suggested that the later years of one’s life afford more opportunity and greater flexibility in terms of having the time (and relative freedom) to travel.
I enjoy your photographs – the far flung places of the world especially – and wonder if they deserve to be viewed in a gallery imbedded in the post? A larger size image would suit them very well. I think the process is relatively straightforward and tutorials are abundant online.
Enjoy your evening.

That would be a good idea. I may well look into how to do that. Though at the moment my blog is so full I might not be able to post much more. I have already had to go and cull hundreds of photos. Space is now a big issue.
Wow those mountains are amazing!
They looked very unreal to me but incredibly beautiful!
Definitely magical!
A wonderful place.
