This tells the story of how Opher Goodwin was selected by aliens to save the world.
The visitors from afar had scoured the universe in search of life and intelligence. They found it on a planet called Earth, where, unfortunately, the dominant life form was trying it’s best to wipe itself – and everything else – out.
The aliens set about selecting a saviour and installing him as Global President. They chose the unlikely hero Opher Goodwin.
Opher and his friends from the pub had all of the immense problems of the world on their shoulders plus the vicious opposition of the existing establishment. Against such odds – could they possibly succeed? What was it that made Opher the chosen one?
It is a pacey read that you can’t put down – full of humour and outrageous antics with an important message behind it. What more could you want?
Why not try an Opher book right now?

Opher, afternoon – you will not believe this, I have been working in the front garden all afternoon. Along came these three girls on mobile phones, Daisy was out in the garden with me, one of the girls was talking to Daisy at our gate, she had this little Black dog with her. Next thing I knew these girls dumped the poor dog by our gate and went off, I only noticed the dog when Daisy began barking. Spent hours with this dog, can’t have it in the house because of Daisy. A neighbour has finally taken it to a friend of his and in the morning they are contacting dog warden. This house is like a nut house – I just wonder what is coming next. Click below for video.
Evening Anna, I trust you had a good birthday!
What with bambi’s and dogs you are becoming a magnet for animals! What will be next?
I dread to think Opher, it is like a nightmare here at times. Have not seen Bambi in the garden, the fruit is going so it must be around. A neighbour took the dog to his friend for the night, the friend put it on his facebook page and some girl he knew said her dog had been missing for an hour – hell of a lot more than that. Saw the facebook page and a picture of the owner, it was the same one that dumped it at my gate, she works on the Pier, how convenient for her. I left a message on her facebook page saying how it was dumped at mt gate, no response from her. I am sorry now I let the dog go should have kept it and taken it to dogs home tomorrow. I fear this “B” will dump it again. It was starving when we fed it, it’s teeth brown it’s coat had not seen any brushing, I feel guilty now.
Thank you, had a nice Birthday, hate being 67, but what can I do about it. Mind is 40/45 but not body sorry to say. You tired out from all the fun with the Children?
Yes – it was great and tiring. They’ve all gone home now. Will miss them.
Sixty seven was a good year! 1967 that is. I still feel young at heart!
That’s the trouble Opher, our minds are still young but the body lets us down, still I think we had the best years – I am glad I am not starting bringing up a family.
I’m too old for kids. It was exhausting just having two days!
Life becomes so stressful at times.
Too true – but that’s better than being bored!
Correct, but do you know I was beginning to get dizzy with all the gardening and knew I had to pack up and go in (the Heart) and then all this business with this little dog dumped at my gate, it stressed me out.
Why would somebody do that? It seemed a nice little dog. There are some strange people aren’t there?
Opher, told you before Clacton-On-Sea is an odd place, well not so much the place as the people. I am angry about it all, I just regret she has got it back again, if Daisy had been fine with it, I would definitely have kept it. The Little dog was so thin, we fed it chicken and I have never seen a dog take the food so quick and as for the water, poor little soul. As I said it’s teeth were brown and it’s coat awful. It was very loving and kept tearing at the front door to get in, David played ball with it, really nice little dog. I detest people who dump dogs, it was getting on so I guess she did not want it. She saw Daisy in the front garden, I heard this voice say “she’s got a dog”, I just wish I had said something, but you don’t expect something like this to happen. I would know these three again, recognised the dark haired owner on the facebook page.
I think sea-side resorts attract a lot of undesirable people. It’s the same at Brighton and Bridlington. A great shame.
Some of them are mean and nasty.
This Council done a deal with the Government to take ex Prisoners and have them housed here, also all the lot from London homeless/drug addicts they have dumped them here, we have unmarried mothers the amount is dreadful and before you have a go at me Opher, I have no problem with one/two mistake but 4/5 and on benefits no they are no errors, it is appalling. We have Romanians/Polish big community of the latter – the Poles work the Romanians well you can guess what. I never wanted to come to this Town, I wanted out of Essex but I had to do what I was told, as you know I am stuck here now. This Town is completely different since I came here what 35 years ago. I know you expect change but not to this extent.
They need to sort this out don’t they? They can’t just support all these girls getting pregnant so they don’t have to work and can get housed. They should stop the benefit and take the kids into care. That might stop it all.
The other problem is that they tend to congregate all the ex-prisoners and immigrants together. That creates problems in those areas. Not good.
Very true, for too many life has been made easy. I know when David died I was so grateful for what was done for me the Boys had free school meals, once or maybe twice a year I received help towards their uniforms and the State gave me a cheque once a year for the 1pence a week I was entitled to – I was just over the limit with Widows Pens and David Company Pen. I was so grateful to the Taxpayers who helped me, now Opher these people demand more and more, like houses, the say it’s their right no it is not, I had worked before marriage these people don’t or have never worked – annoys me so much, well you can see that.
Perhaps they hostels with basic level accommodation and encourage them to work?
These people will not work, the Taxpayer is keeping them – they need to be moved on – I know it then becomes someone else’s problem.
They’ll work if they have to! The Jarrow marchers marched for work not benefits.
That was a different generation, they had no handouts. Now it is far too easy for them, until we have a Government that is determined to stop benefits for those unworthy nothing will change. Like Corbyn refusing to admit he is Middle Class, here we go again this damn Class System of Britain.
There has to be a middle way. I don’t mind contributing for the really needy; it’s the scroungers who are the problem.
It is the scroungers who are ruining the Country, if I were younger and on my own and had the guts I would have cleared out of this Country.
Where to?
If the World was like the 1960/70s I would have gone to the States
/Canada or perhaps even New Zealand
OK. Sounds good. I think if it hadn’t been for family I might have gone to Australia.
Why, the wide open spaces? I think it is all planned for us, some good some bad. Sometimes I think I have had the hell on earth, it could only get better after.
I don’t believe in destiny. I liked the feel of Australia. It felt young and full of energy. There was room to breathe.
Why not, I do. Yes you are right about Australia, England always has that “dead feeling”.
Too many people – too set in its ways.
We will never move on. They need to get rid of Royalty, this class system so wrong
I agree with both of those statements. That’s half the trouble with this country.
What’s the other half – me?
Ha ha – the other half is the scroungers, the scum, the jihadists and scallies.
Yes at last
