My Grandfather – A Psychic Medium.
My grandfather was a meter reader for the water board. He became a Psychic Medium.
My mother was a confirmed Spiritualist. She believed in her father and thought you could converse with the dead.
I thought the whole thing was nuts.
My grandfather would go into a trance and talk in a funny voice. He had an American Native Indian Chief – called White Eagle, a china man called Chan and a cheeky cockney and put on voices accordingly. I last saw him when I was fourteen. I found it embarrassing.
My grandfather used to hold séances and healing sessions. He was also a homeopath. He was very successful at it and was able to give up his ‘day job’.
Among his ‘achievements’ was a healing session on a Mr Cuthbert Coulson Pounder, who was famous for designing diesel engines on ships like the liner the Queen Mary. He had terminal, inoperable cancer of the kidneys. He went to my grandfather in desperation. My grandfather held a healing session in which he removed a tumour from Cuthbert’s kidney. Later medical examination confirmed there was no longer a tumour there and Coulson survived for many years. He went on to write a book about my grandfather and grandmother, who my mother swore was the real power in the partnership, entitled ‘Healers from another world’.
I cannot explain this but I still am very skeptical of his activities.
My mother used to regularly go along to the spiritualist church to get ‘readings’ and messages from the dead.
She believed him.
I don’t.

Wow Opher! That is very cool. I believe them.
What Mary? You should believe me.
Hahaha, Opher. I believe you too. It’s all the same.
Cheers Mary – keep an open mind!
My great grandmother was a witch. I heard enough stories to scare you to death, but I can’t deny the pull to the spiritual is strong in my family. You just never know! 😀
Wow! Cheryl. You should write about that. Get those stories out there!
That is one story Opher. I don’t know what to say and that in itself is unusual!
Well that is indeed strange Anna! It is unusual!
Cheryl, you can’t leave there you have to tell us more about your great grandmother.
I agree with Anna – we want to hear more!
I would except I have very few details. I was very young when she passed away and family was hesitant to talk about it. I just know that the interest in spirituality has been strong in all my dad’s family. Including in me. It’s often scared me because if you open that door to those influences, it swings both ways. Light OR dark… That’s why I tend to give stories like yours the benefit of the doubt, Opher.
Sounds like a good cause for investigation. I would like to hear more about the witches.
The light and dark is all around us. It is so easy to flip from one to the other – human nature being what it is. But most people, in my experience, are on the light side. The dark are often more powerful though. The psychopaths are good at gaining office and promotion. They are so confident, clear, decisive and reasonable. They are evil. We like strong leaders. We elect sociopaths and psychopaths. We promote them. We need to start respecting the people who are not so sure all the time. They are probably more emotionally in tune.
May the force be with you!
😀
Like it Opher, I am not often lost for words. Lucky the Cops were not around when you left your friend on Ilford High Street, I bet that was in the local paper, someone was bound to have seen it.
Yep – that was funny but it was also distressing to think that nobody rescued him.
I’m off to see the Lady in the Van.
Catch you later!
If you are still here, ENJOY.
I did enjoy. It was good. Alan Bennett was very long suffering. It is quite a tale.
Cheryl, you should do some research when you can spare the time, it might go back to Salem you don’t know.
Witch Salem?
OML! LMBO! 😀 Opget, you’re such a card…
I hope its an ace!
Um… I meant to say Opher. I guess my “familiar” got my tongue. :;)
It’s alright. I’ve been called all sorts and none of its true!
I am so pleased you enjoyed the film. Good one coming in a few weeks that is if you like Spy films (I do) called I think “The Bridge” with Tom Hanks.
Yeah – that looks good. There’a a few out that I wouldn’t mind seeing – Carol and Brooklyn both sound good.
I have seen an advert for “Carol” but not “Brooklyn”. Our Cinema here does not show many big films so it is Colchester, I rarely go there.
Brooklyn had good reviews and looked interesting.
What is it about?
Can’t really remember. That’s how good my memory is these days!
That’s ok, when they come on box office I sometimes get them but now Sky are crafty you not only rent the film for the night you pay for the DVD as well, that sucks if the film is crap and a lot of times they are.
Talk to your boys. There’s all sorts of options now – netflix and stuff – they’ll know!
I will do, thanks.
Cheers
