Is this the new idea of diplomacy from the Oval office?

Ambush.

False accusations.

Rudeness.

Hostile confrontation.

Simplistic views.

Trump did it with Zelenskyy who he accused of starting the war by allowing Putin to invade his country while hillbilly puppet Vance pilloried him for not wearing a suit.

Now he’s doing it with Rhamaphosa and false claims of white genocide. Once again, without being in full possession of the facts (probably instigated by a distorted view produced by Musk), Trump has gone full tilt at something complex that he clearly doesn’t understand.

South Africa, with it’s inequality and poverty, has a great amount of crime. White farmers have suffered but that only makes up 0.2% of the crime. They are usually targeted because of their wealth and living in isolated farms rather than being white (they own 60% of the wealth). Obviously they need protection and if they are being targeted by certain violent groups then something needs to happen. What is clear is that it isn’t the simplistic picture put forward by Trump.

Fact check: Trump’s false suggestion of a ‘genocide’ against White farmers in South Africa

Even if it was exactly how Trump portrayed it, is this the way to deal with it?

Aren’t these talks that need to take place behind closed doors?

Should world leaders be ambushed so rudely in front of the world’s press in such an uncouth humiliating manner?

I find it unbecoming of a world leader to behave in such a crass manner. It’s not so much statesman-like as mafia-like.

Is this rudeness going to bear results or will world leaders become incensed and antagonistic?

Is this crass simplistic ambush tactic going to become the new norm?

Sunset, Flash and Trees in South Africa

Travel and photography

I never get tired of sunsets. Back in 2006 I was in South Africa walking through the bush at sunset. The colours were amazing and I was experimenting with using flash to highlight the trees in the foreground against the backdrop of the sky. I achieved some nice effects.

South Africa – some animals in the National Park

Travel and photography

We were taken off to a fabulous National Park where we stayed for a week in a log cabin and went off for long walks and got lost.

These are some of the animals we saw:

Some of the Birds we saw in South Africa

There was a lot of wonderful colourful birds. Here’s a few.

Hot Penguins of South Africa.

You just don’t associate Penguins with the heat of South Africa. A colony of Jackass penguins live in Boulder Bay at Cape Town.

They were really cute penguins.

South Africa – Mountains and Stormy Clouds

Travel and Photography

The mountains around Cape Town seemed to generate some huge storms with amazing clouds. I thought they were very picturesque.

The Reality of South Africa – the Townships

Racism in action

Driving down the main highway in Cape Town is extremely salutary. On one side of the highway is the Townships where the poor blacks live. It is a shanty town of ramshackle sheds in which the black population live.

On the other side of the road there are the beautiful houses of the white suburbs.

Every morning one can see the black people pouring out of the townships to go to work in the white estates as maids, gardeners, cooks and odd-job men.

These are the toilets for all the people living in the township.

South Africa – Whales, dunes and ostriches

A magical nature reserve.

South Africa – Extravagant Sunsets.

You cannot beat a sunset for unadulterated majesty. Never bored.

A few of the birds and animals in the South African game reserve.

I adore seeing the wildlife!
