Pretending we’re sane

Maunufacturing               Prejudice and hate

Institutionalised              Church and state.

Opher – 3.1.2025

My first poem of 2025 is a little sad. A recognition of the reality of human beings. We really aren’t very nice. Indeed, I think we are totally deranged. Our default position is one of greed. We have a love of death and cruelty. We strive for power and recognition. We instil division and hate.

Just look at history with its litany of war, torture and destruction. It’s everywhere. Given half a chance we indulge in nastiness of the worst type.

Just look at the state and religion – imprisonment, torture machines, war and hate. All vying for supremacy and suppressing all opposition.

Just look at the way we organise our countries and the whole world – absolute insanity, competition, racism, wars, defence, politics, religion. We are utterly mad.

We’re all to blame. We all contribute. We elect monsters – psychopaths, narcissists, sociopaths and somehow expect them to make things better. We are mad.

Individually we are kind, caring and compassionate. Put us in a group and we become maniacs.

Humanity, I’m tired of warning you.

You take no notice.

If you don’t mend your ways you are heading for disaster.

Humanity, I despair.

Why do you do it?

Elect greedy narcissists as leaders?

Psychopaths and leeches?

Humanity, why are you so gullible?

Don’t you know that there are no easy answers?

The world is not black and white.

Humanity, I am ashamed of you.

You should know that greed is not a recipe for success.

We cannot create a better society out of hate.

Greed is selfish.

Greed stinks.

Humanity, you must realise that we can only make things better by working together;

Through caring for each other;

By channelling the beauty of the world.

Humanity, you are part of something bigger and better than this!

This is grubby.

Humanity, I am losing my patience.

Your cities are full of food banks and sleeping bags.

You cities have penthouses and yachts.

You cover trees with concrete and litter.

You fill rivers with sewage.

You load the air with fumes.

Humanity, you should know better.

You are part of a green wonderland;

A rich brotherhood;

A glorious adventure;

Yet you choose to wallow in your own filth.

Instead of loving

You choose to fight like spoilt brats

And waste your wealth on weapons.

Humanity, you are a disgrace!

You need to grow up!

Gosh! Just think what a world we might have if we put all our resources and ingenuity into making the planet beautiful for everyone and everything instead of creating war.

The Cabal – A Sci-fi novel of social intrigue

I felt I had to share this. I have just completed the second rewrite of this new Sci-fi novel. I then wrote this blurb for the back cover. All comments are gratefully received.

I’m going to catch my breath before looking to publish. Before I do I’d be glad of any feedback.

I don’t do space opera or action stuff. I work at exploring social situations. This novel is as relevant today as any book even though it’s based in the future.

I’ll put up some extracts for comment over the next few days.

The Cabal Blurb

It is the year 3960 of the System – a sprawling confederation of planets spanning hundreds of thousands of worlds.

Human beings have come a long way through space and time but nothing much changes.

This is a tale of war, political intrigue, greed, power and conspiracy.

The Cabal are a ruthless group of the wealthiest people that have ever lived. They have everything but they want more and are prepared to do anything to achieve their goal, even destroy worlds.

Johnson is demob happy and pratting about on jollies.

Sunak and Truss are fighting with each other over power and paying lip service to the looming catastrophe..

Meanwhile, we are all up shit-creek without a paddle.

Energy, food, petrol and rent is all escalating out of control and nobody is really dealing with it.

Where are the solutions?

Does anybody care?

The country is in an absolute mess and the Tories don’t give a fuck about ordinary people. The oil and power companies are making a killing. Bonuses are through the roof. Rich shareholders are raking it in. As far as Tories are concerned it’s all hunky dory. Until people stop voting for these greedy elitists it will continue.

We starve and freeze while the fat cats stuff millions in the Cayman Islands tax-free.

We are the gullible fools. The propaganda works.
