Cambodia – Angkor Wat

If you are in Cambodia Angkor Wat has to be somewhere you have to visit. It is a massive temple complex. You could spend weeks wandering around it from temple to temple – in fact I’d love to do just that.

We started off at one of the minor temples before heading for the main event!

It was shrouded in early morning mist!

Tangled Roots And Temples

Tangled Roots And Temples

Tangled roots and temples

                Intertwined

Organic beauty

                                Juxtaposing elegance.

The majesty of man

                Modified

And dwarfed

                                By the awe of nature.

Great tree trunks

                Magnificent

Reaching for heaven

                                Spires in their wake.

Yet together as one

                Greater

A work of great art

                                Synergy of man and nature

That is real truth

                Celebration

Of wonder and awe

                                Harmony with the universe.

This was a poem inspired by the temples of Angkor Wat. The majestic jungle trees festooning the ancient temple walls with their incredible roots.

For me it was poetry in natural form.

The juxtaposition of the organic natural with the angular manmade structures created a majestic form greater than either.

The temples were constructed to worship a fictional god.

Nature had taken over.

But together they were a real celebration of the wonder of forever.

Cambodia – Angkor Wat – Another wondrous site.

Angkor Wat – Cambodia – leaving the main temple complex – beauty, monks and offerings.

Beautiful floral offerings, monks and devotion. We left to visit another smaller temple.

Angkor Wat – The Main Temple complex

One of the wonders of the world. Up there with Machu Picchu

Angkor Wat – Wonders and fabulous art.

The details were amazing. Twenty square miles of art.

Tangled Roots and Temples – the poetry of shapes – photos

The temple complexes at Angkor Wat had been lost in dense jungle. Trees had taken root and intertwined with the manmade structures. They created a remarkable poetry of form – organic and manufactured, a juxtaposition of elgance.

The 12th Century Hindu Temple was converted to Buddhist. So incredibly impressive in the midst of the jungle.
