How many homophones can you spot?
My son was sitting by the sea
I wondered if he did see the same as me?
We put aside the books we’d read
To allow the sun to turn us red.
The rays beat down without pause
Inducing sweat which pours from pores.
With our paws we wiped it from our sight
It was a rite we needed to get right.
Those rays were hot enough to raise steam,
To raze the grass to cinders or cook bream.
I was wondering what sort of play to write
to get the play right to satisfy the inner playwright.
I craved rain but had to rein in that wish, so keen,
Which might not happen in the reign of our Queen.
I plucked an idea, both root and shoot
And so for home we fixed a route.
Not much longer could we have lain
Before setting off along the lane.
Nb.
