Dogs – a poem

Dogs

Four legs, wet nose and wagging tail
Sniffing and peeing everywhere.
A fur coat that fits so well
Without the need for underwear.

Big and small, podgy and slight,
They come in all shapes and sizes.
Some growl, some bite
Some lick and some win prizes.

Guard dogs, lap dogs,
Perfect little pets.
Costing you the whole hog
As you pay the vets.

Man’s best friend in a huddle
The smelly sentinel
They’ll give you a big cuddle
If you’re not feeling well.

For dog’s delight is the essence
They love to walk and play
But they can be a bloody nuisance
So I gave mine away!

I was in a frivolous mood today! By the way – I love dogs and would never give them away even if they are a bloody nuisance at times and cost you an arm and leg.

  1. Don’t tell it’s true, that you gave yours away!! Our son has just got himself 2 little bundles of squirming joy. To try to hold them both is like holding a bunch of wriggling worms. They do not live with us, of course. We are in process of trying to socialise our little 10yo madam to not kill them when they visit. So far, they are still breathing and willing to visit.

    1. No Raili – I made that bit up. I had my gorgeous, mad border collie for fourteen years. He was part of the family. I’m a real dog person.
When we finally stop travelling I’m getting another – though maybe not a border collie.

      1. May I recommend a cute little lapdog which follows you around, sits between your feet while you are on the throne, curls up next to you when you snooze watching TV, and runs rings of joy around you when you come back home even if it is only after 5 minutes away. Then again, maybe all dogs do that!

      2. I think they do! I was rather thinking an Irish Wolfhound! But Liz is not so keen. I’ll probably end up with a mutt from the rescue centre!
        I just love dogs.

      3. Rescue dogs, although a lot of work, are not only desperately deserving. From what I’ve seen, they make the most loyal and adorable companions.

      4. Plus you are giving a needy dog a home! I feel so sorry for them. They have been abused and neglected and they deserved none of it. I’d feel I was doing some good.
