Today’s Music to Blow My Mind – Roy Harper – HQ

A rockier Harper with a great band. Chris Spedding’s searing lead guitar with Bill Bruford’s heavy drumming and Dave Cochran on bass. The Game was a different band – Dave Gilmour, John Paul Jones and Steve Broughton. Then we have the fabulous Grimethorpre Colliery band arranged by David Bedford on the wonderful When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease.

An album that features the epic 14 minute The Game with a host of absolute gems. I sometimes think this was Roy’s best, but then…….. There are some strong contenders.

The Lethal Game – A poem

The Lethal Game – A poem

The Lethal Game

The truth is being used.

When people are hopelessly abused.

Politics and spin. Politics and spin.

Power and wealth. Power and wealth.

It’s a lethal game.

In this post-truth shame.

There are a bunch of arrogant people who tell you that they know exactly what is going on. They glean their news from sites that are clean. They boldly tell you that the mainstream lies.

I tell you – no sites are clean.

It’s all a game.

Knowledge is money.

The Game

The Game

The game of avoiding catastrophe

                Played against an opponent

                                Who does not care.

What can be more important

                Than fighting for the future?

Jumping off a cliff

                Into the unknown

                                As the corals bleach.

Populations crash.

                An ecosystem

That took billions of years to build,

Destroyed in decades

As time runs out.

People are ready for change.

We are desperate for hope.

Opher – 22.4.2021

We are standing on the brink of that cliff.

We are unbalancing the ecosystems.

We are killing the wildlife.

We are destroying habitats.

We are polluting the world.

We put money before the future.

Enough is enough.

It has to stop.

We have to start to repair the world.

It is too beautiful to allow it to die.

Poetry – I’m not a player

I’m not a player

I’m a Mah-jong counter

A piece upon the board

Pushed back and forth

By those who can afford.

They move me here.

They move me there,

As is their desire.

I have no say in anything

They buy the guns for hire.

They fit me with the blindfold

The earplugs and the gag.

And when the game is over

I’m back inside the bag.

There are big forces at work in the world shaping our destinies. They are the major players. Sometimes my impotency becomes so obvious.

How did they get there? What is their aim?

Do I agree with what they are doing?

No I don’t.

It’s just money and power.

It’s a game.

I dream of being a pawn! If only. I can’t even get on the board.
