India – Chennai – In the dock

We left as the sun was setting. The boat was surrounded with a cordon of heavily armed guards. O wasn’t sure if they were concerned that we might try to jump ship or if we were in danger of attack. It’s always salutary to find that there’s a need for such shows of force.

It was surreal. The sun was setting, crows were gathering, seabirds were fishing, the murky waters were full of large jellyfish.

Leaving India – Photos

Arriving back at our ship it was salutary to see so many armed soldiers surrounding the dock. Were they there to protect us? Or were they there to prevent the Indians from getting on board? Maybe both??

I always find men with guns very disturbing.

Osprey (fish eagles) were seeking a meal.

The water in the bay was full of yellowy-orange jellyfish.

Hooded crows watched from the superstructure.

The sun was setting, bathing everything in a hazy golden light. The big derricks looked like prehistoric dinosaurs.

We were saying goodbye to India.

We had packed a lot into a day – two cities – two historic temples, a couple of meals and beers, and a lot of sights, people and animals.

A good day – I must go back soon!
