Realising Tanah Lot – a spectacular sight.

We had to fend off mischievous monkeys to get to the temple. The temple is built on a rock that becomes an island at high tide. It was incredibly beautiful.

Bali – Approaching the fabulous Tanah Lot.

One of the most beautiful sights on Bali.

Welcome To Bali

Music, costumes, greeting girls, colourful statues, then out onto the streets.

Bali – Volcanoes, birds and boats

We slid in along the coast, the volcanoes enshrouded in early morning mist. We slipped into harbour among flocks of long-beaked wading birds and fishing boats.

Magnificent sunset at Jimbaran Bay – Bali

Sunset was breathtaking!! One of the best I’ve ever seen!! To sit with a beer or two and watch the colours change!! Unbelievable!

Bali – A walk in the rice terraces and through the monkey forest at Ubud – photos.

We took another long walk out into the rice terracing near petulu then back to Ubud for a walk through the monkey forest with its temples and sculptures.

Bali – Temple Art, Caged birds, Traffic and Deities – photos.

Everywhere you go in Bali there is something to see. Even in the middle of roundabouts there are pieces of art or deities. The Temples are extraordinary.

Bali – the Besakih temple at the foot of Mount Agung – an active volcano.

Bali is volcanic. It is still active.

The Balinese Hindu religion has been amalgamated with many of their older traditions. Placating the gods and driving out evil spirits is part of their culture. There are offering everywhere.

The volcanic soil is very fertile but living on the slopes of an active volcano is a little scary. In order to placate the god of the volcano they built a big impressive temple complex and hold many ceremonies.

We arrived in the middle of one.

It seemed to work. While the volcano did produce some smoke it did not erupt and kill everyone.

Bali – a walk in the countryside, through the paddy fields.

We set off for a day’s walk through the paddy fields. There was plenty of wildlife. People were working in the fields. We came across a shack in the middle of nowhere where an old guy offered us tea and played us some music on a strange instrument.

We came across a temple and were shown around by a friendly lady who wanted to pose for photos.

Bali – Buddhist ceremonies, offerings, colour, art, wonder.

It was quite incredible to be able to travel around the country, to see the sites and observe the people as they went about their business.
