Jerusalem – The Church and tomb of Mary – Photos

It was, as one might expect, lavish, spectacular and beautiful. The artists and artisans had certainly gone to town.

One had the feeling that there was definitely an edge of competition here.

As an atheist, I could appreciate the artwork and wonder at the devotion and ecstatic expressions of the worshippers – reminded me of the expression on my face when I met Bo Diddley.

Burton Agnes Hall – A marvel.

The fabulous old hall was open free to the music lovers at the Burton Agnes Jazz and Blues Festival. It’s a marvel, fabulous carved oak, lavish rooms, artwork all over the place, carvings, embellishments.

It never stopped, every time you turned a corner there was a new breath-taking sight, an ornate statue, a painting or a ceremonial soldier. The detail was extraordinary, the colours so bright, the lustre and scale.

I can’t imagine anybody living there though – it’s all for show!
