Sure, immigration is a problem that needs solving.
Sure, welfare scroungers need dealing with.
Sure, we have a problem with crime.
But put aside the scapegoating designed to distract our attention!
The real problem is the tax-evading, exploiting billionaires!
It’s actually worse than that, Opher. Many of them use their wealth and market power to do bad things to us. Like Bill Gates all but destroying the idea of backwards compatibility in software. And Jeremy Grantham financing academics that peddle the establishment’s alarmist line on climate. These are worse than just parasites; the word I use for them is pests.
But I don’t think a wealth tax could work. You’d end up with billionaire politicians and armies of millionaire bureaucrats. Myself, I’d rather see the tweezers solution. Very large tweezers.

My arm is getting better, but it is still in the brace. I have an appointment on Wednesday, at which I should find out how long it will be before I can take the brace off. After that, I guess, it will be 4 to 6 weeks before I will be recovered and back to something near normal.
What about playing??
Yes, that is a problem because my right thumb is the part which is still most painful. While the weight of the tuba sits in the lap, the control that stops it falling forward or sideways rests with the right thumb.
Before I even get there, I’m going to have to re-teach myself how to write and how to drive. Neither will be easy.
