The whole universe is made of nothing!

The whole universe is made of nothing!

atom

I’ve just read an article about string theory and quarks.

All atoms are made of quarks. Quarks are the smallest particles of matter known to man.

The theory is that a quark is made up of a piece of space fabric that is folded up and exists in six dimensions.

My understanding of space fabric is that it is nothing. So all matter is thought to be made of nothing folded into six dimensions. Amazing.

I have trouble getting my head round a universe with three dimensions (four if you count time). I can’t imagine what six dimensions would actually be. My brain hurts.

So the whole universe is basically nothing folded. Shakespeare was right. All life is but a dream.

Isn’t science incredible. I can’t wait to find out more. Ruth is certainly stranger than Richard!

  1. Hey Opher – The internet is alive with answers and hypotheses….from what I can gather, in summary – 4th dimension equates to space + time – 5th dimension where the notion of a possible world similar but yet different from our own formed from similar initial conditions to our own world allows us to determine similarities and differences – 6th dimension permits access to ALL other possible worlds formed from initial conditions similar to our own – 7th dimension accesses ALL possible worlds formed from initial conditions different to our own – 8th dimension permits access to all possible historical worlds formed from initial conditions different to our own world – 9th dimension, allows comparison between ALL possible universe histories, starting with different initial conditions – 10th and final dimension, in which everything else possible and imaginable resides. The additional 6 dimensions to 4D space time are necessary for String Theory to remain consistent, but Superstring Theory allows for 26 dimensions of space time.

    1. And to think Dewin that I often have trouble managing three!!
One thing is quite clear to me – nothing is as it seems! The world we appear to live in is not real.

      1. Hey Opher – Some say we live in a Hologramatic Universe, which no doubt (for those who understand such theories) further substantiates Shakespeare’s dream scenario.

In terms of Spirituality, I also read of those who regard the 5th dimension as being of the heart where Love, Peace and Happiness exist…a universe readily accessed by each and everyone of us if we were to understand that all human beings have capacity to give and receive infinite Love. It sounds an ideal place to be. One might even imagine the human race of the future will one day create such a utopian dimension here on Earth.

      2. I like the sound of the fifth dimension Dewin. A place where we cherish chimpanzees. I feel a poem coming on.

      3. ‘Earth,’ She pleaded, ‘was once star-seeded,’
‘With beings formed from clay with Love,’
‘But hearts conceited, true beauty depleted,’
‘Tis why I weep from heaven above.’

      4. As you have mentioned here before Opher, the human race appears paused (or woefully stuck) in its evolutionary infancy: unable to grow and advance; continually going around-and-around travelling the same tired old piece of track with no purposeful destination in mind. Perhaps a good role-model is needed to advance us, enthuse and elevate us, and progress us forward into a New Age. Thus one wonders when the aliens will arrive to show us the way forward for it seems there is no earthbound authority who will do that for us.

      5. Well Opher, perhaps one day your science-fiction will become science fact: such a a scenario is badly needed for Gaia’s Love remains unheeded.

      6. Ah I see Opher.

Mind you, I’d still like to know what came before the ‘initial singularity’. Or to know what exactly lies on the other-side of a black-hole, or indeed quite where a black-hole might lead to (if anywhere at all!)

Perhaps one-day our empirical-based science will have a definitive answer to substantiate theoretical Physics. Until then, either our imagination, or the words of those with access to atavistic memory (Theosophists or Bhuddist Masters perhaps?) will have to suffice.

      7. These are the questions that make life interesting!! I want more questions!!
Perhaps there is a Sci-fi book to write – ‘The Other Side of the Singularity’.

      8. Whilst I want more answers Opher!
However, having said that, I also think it important that there are limits on what we are able to know: it motivates us to seek and reach beyond what we are as yet ready to grasp.

Perhaps indeed there is a book waiting to be written…so why not write it?

      9. I’m working on three books at the moment. But I’ll bear that in mind. It’s an interesting idea.

      10. A lame excuse if ever i have heard one! To be honest, I’d have thought all those years spent in the saddle would have improved your efficiency! 🙂

    1. I know, Tub!! My brain is ravelled up like a heap of string. Hang on a minute!! I’ve thought of a theory about that!
