We are told that the massive rise in our fuel bills is due to global problems. Yet the oil and gas industry is making bumper profits.
The bumper profit totals, provided exclusively to the Guardian, show that in the third quarter of 2021 alone, 24 top oil and gas companies made more than $74bn in net income. From January to September, the net income of the group, which includes Exxon, Chevron, Shell and BP, was $174bn.
The Tories could choose to take a windfall tax on these huge profits but they won’t. These are their wealthy chums. They prefer that poor people freeze or choose between eating or heating. Poor people are being fleeced to put money in the pockets of bloated millionaires. That’s the Tory way!!
