Travel and Photography

We headed back from the wonders of Guilin to stay with my daughter in Shanghai. We visited the museum. I was particularly taken with these ancient sculptures. I also liked the willow-pattern. It was Guilin!

China – More photos from around the water town of Zhujiajiao near Shanghai

Zhujiajiao was a beautiful place. We stopped to have lunch in a typical Chinese cafe. The guy took a whole cooked carcass of chicken and smashed it up with a meat cleaver presented to us splintered bones and all. Not exactly cordon bleu.

I love it!

Shanghai – The Tea House – photos

The Tea House was extremely ornate, stilted in the middle of a big pond full of carp. You get to it along a crowded zig-zagging walkway.

It was like a small bit of the old China in the midst of the new.

Shanghai by Night – photos

The city is quite amazing all lit up at night. It is strange to see the old colonial buildings next to the futuristic skyscrapers. The brightly lit dragon boats cruise up and down.

Shanghai – On the Waterfront – The Bund – Photography

It was quite a dull hazy day – full of smoggy air. But it gave a mysterious quality. We walked along the Bund. It is quite a remarkable sky line. I don’t think I could walk twenty yards without girls approaching me and asking to be my Chinese girlfriend. I’d like to think that was my good looks but I suspect there might have been some financial aspect.

Chinese Buddhist Temple in Shanghai – Photos

In amongst all the modern skyscrapers and polluted air we stumbled on an ancient Buddhist temple. I was very taken with the surreal wall of psychedelic Buddhas in among the clouds.
