Red Guitars – America and Me

Brilliant Red Guitars Storm O’Rileys in Hull!! Gig Report and Photos!

The Gig of the Year!!

It might be forty years on from their release of the wonderful ‘Good Technology’ single but the band showed that they still had it in spades. They stormed through a rousing set full of all the great oldies with a smattering of the new. The large crowd were singing along, dancing, prancing and enjoying every minute!

They might not look quite the same but they have never played better. Their songs, brimming with meaning and poetic cleverness were amply amplified by the performance. This idie mix of African Jive, indie rock and experimental sound was infectious and hugely enjoyable.

The energy was there throughout. Vocals were marvellous. Lou’s incredible bass and Matt’s superb drumming thundered along driving it forward as Hallam an John intricate duelling guitars sparkled.

The pace never flagged through a varied set of wonderful songs and they even had the energy to come back for a further delirious rendering of three more gems.

It was hot outside, hot inside and the band were even hotter!

What a party! What a celebration! I felt fortunate to have witnessed it.

I found myself driving home singing ‘Take the Profit out of War! We don’t need it anymore!’

I just wish that Putin had been there!

Red Guitars – Photos – The Adelphi Hull

The Adelphi is a great venue and an old haunt of the fabulous Red Guitars. They blew the place apart. The packed crowd were rocking, bellowing and cheering. What a reception. And they were just as good as ever!! The bass and drums set a funky groove, the guitars and vocals edgy and hypnotic. I loved those afro beats and Zimbabwean jive sounds. It all knitted together perfectly! A great gig!
