  1. Heh, heh, heh. “Mr Bilby” is starting to wake up. He’s still got some wrong ideas, like “they are not breaking any of the laws (which they made)” instead of “why the hell were they able to make bad laws in the first place?” And “state capture is how climate change didn’t get stopped” rather than “state capture is how the fraudulent accusations of ‘climate change’ didn’t get stopped.” To mis-quote Dick Emery: “His ideas are awful. But I like him.”

    1. But we know why they made the bad laws – so they could profit from them!!
You and global warming! When will you look properly at the evidence??

      1. Opher, you are right in your first statement, but you misunderstood what I said. OK, I should maybe have said “How the hell,” rather than “Why the hell,” but you’re intelligent enough to understand what I meant!

As to global warming, I have looked at the evidence. And I don’t believe the hypothesis that human emissions of carbon dioxide are causing, have caused, or will cause in the lifetime of anyone alive today, any nett disbenefit to human civilization. Indeed, I regard the economic activities which lead to these emissions as nett positive for humanity.

      2. I still cannot understand how you can possibly come to that conclusion Neil. You understand the science of the Greenhouse effect. The increasing levels of greenhouse gasses are well documented. The warming of the planet is well-documented. The effects are well-documented. You have adopted an erroneous stance and now refuse to loosen your grip regardless of all the evidence. For a mathematical person, a statistician, that is bizarre.

  2. Opher, you say: The increasing levels of greenhouse gasses are well documented. And you say: The warming of the planet is well-documented.

You do not address how much of the observed greenhouse gas increase is due to human emissions of carbon dioxide, or how well that is demonstrated.

You do not address how much of the observed warming of the planet is due to the observed greenhouse gas increase, or how well that is demonstrated.

You say: The effects are well-documented. You do not say whether these effects are positive or negative for human civilization, or how well that is demonstrated.

You do not address the quality of the science, or of the associated administrative or political processes, in the discipline called “climate science.”

Tellingly, you do not specifically state the accusation you are making against me and other human beings who merely wish to create a human civilization as comfortable and prosperous as we can.

Your side cites as “evidence” climate models, that have never been validated for predictive ability, and have no proven relationship to reality.

You refuse to admit physical evidence that goes against your thesis. Such as, islands that are not being overwhelmed by sea level rise, but instead are growing.

You do not address the issue of the presumption of innocence. Why should those accused of some nebulous “crime” have to prove a negative?

You do not address the issue of the burden of proof. Which side should bear the burden of proof – those that wish to restrict others’ prosperity and freedoms, or those who do not? Why do you not provide proof beyond reasonable doubt of the guilt of those you accuse?

You do not address the issue of costs versus benefits. You have failed to establish the benefits of action to “mitigate” some problem (which you have neither clearly defined nor proved is a problem). And you have failed to account for the costs associated with such action, or to compare those costs with the putative benefits to those who you want to force to pay them.

You say: You have adopted an erroneous stance and now refuse to loosen your grip regardless of all the evidence. I agree: you have adopted an erroneous stance and now refuse to loosen your grip regardless of your lack of evidence.

For a human being, and particularly for a scientist, that is, to use your word, bizarre.

I'd like to hear from you...
