  1. John Cotter is half way there. But who owns the pollsters?

In one of my more conciliatory moods with the sham called “democracy,” I ask: why don’t we make it that a petition signed by sufficiently many people (say, 250,000) must trigger a general election within, say, three months?

Oh, sorry. This isn’t a democracy, or even a sham “democracy,” any more.

    1. I too have trouble with this sham democracy. While the media is bought and controlled by Tories we cannot receive unbiased news – which is essential for a democracy. Having a first past the post system is undemocratic. But then I am very suspicious of having ill-informed, ill-educated, stupid people having a direct vote. That is a disaster.
I think proportional representation and a watchdog for the media is the way forward.
I like your idea of a means of triggering an election.

Opher, you’re a conservative. “Allowing the plebs to vote is a disaster.” That’s what you said. Didn’t you?

While the media is bought and controlled by Tories we cannot receive unbiased news.

While there is no freedom of speech and expression, all “news” is establishment news. The Tories just happen to be the ones about to be caught holding the parcel when the music stops.

      2. No, not really Neil. I am very concerned for any democratic process when you have a population that have been deliberately misinformed, poorly educated to think for themselves, ignorant of the real issues (due to propaganda, fake news and poor education), and are not bright to start with.
Everything has been dumbed down. Most people are disengaged from thinking, obsessed with trivia. Democracy cannot operate. We saw that with Brexit.
No. The Tories bought and control the media. Labour, Greens etc. hardly get a look in. It’s wall to wall Tory propaganda. The Tories represent the establishment.

I'd like to hear from you...
