The Faroes – more of the rugged landscape.

Driving through the mountains and hills, with their scattered communities, or single dwellings, one is struck by the loneliness and beautiful bleakness of the place. It is incredibly picturesque.

The Lunar Landscape that is Etna – Europe’s biggest active volcano.

Travelling up into the misty sky on the ash spewed out from an active volcano is quite an experience. the ash-strewn landscape is barren and atmospheric. Above us the crater spews smoke and a trickle of lava oozes.

Cape Verde – A volcanic gem off the coast of Africa.

A group of volcanic islands off the coast of Africa. Very arid, dry volcanic soil with no standing water and no lush undergrowth.

We went up to the top of the central volcano. From the top it was clear that the bay was a collapsed crater. One can only marvel at the colossal forces that were involved in its creation.
