I thought it would be interesting to look at Boris Johnson objectively.
He certainly is a narcissist. He wants to be liked.
He’s come from an extremely privileged background. – wealth is assumed as his right.
He has been educated in Public Schools to assume an entitlement.
He is extremely arrogant, believes that he is superior and can treat others with contempt.
He has assumed a persona that he knows appeals to the people he believes are lesser to him. He’s jolly Boris. A good laugh. They think they can relate to him. They think he is on their side.
He has learnt how to deceive them and manipulate these lesser people.
He has adopted a shambolic image and deliberately tussles up his hair because he thinks that appeals.
He has used lies and soundbites to propel himself to the top (with a lot of help on the way).
He’s a libertine who enjoys wealth and power.
He is lazy and never on top of the facts. He never does his homework and so doesn’t know what he is doing most of the time.
The real Johnson is ruthless and cynical.
He’s a chancer and a sponger.
Lying is his default position.
He is very talented at producing soundbites and convincing people that he has answers to the problems. We’ve seen it with Brexit, Covid, Care, Levelling up. It’s always oven-ready deals, world-beating apps and plans. There is never any substance behind the headlines. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. He blags his way.
Without an autocue, he always puts his foot in it.
Whenever (as happens often) things go horribly wrong he simply disappears. He never appears anywhere where he might be held to account. He simply keeps a low profile until things blow over. He hides.
He can be found in a hi-vis jacket doing something daft; somewhere where he can ruffle up his hair, can make a short statement and doesn’t have to answer questions.
I don’t know if that makes him a psychopath, a sociopath, a narcissist or simply a Tory politician.
Opher – You summed him up pretty well! The incompetent buffoon that he is.
As Cumming’s said, BoJo is a ‘shopping trolley’, as if always careering down the aisle swerving violently from one side to another, causing mayhem with every crash.
He has no place in politics or public office, period!
DN
Cheers Dewin.
He’s all four, Opher.
What? A Narcissist, Psychopath, Sociopath and Tory?? That’s a heavy load!!
Yup. As to the first three, this comes down to a dispute between “experts” in the field of psychology. The establishment (in this case, the American Psychiatric Association) think that psychopathy and sociopathy are both forms of ASPD (anti-social personality disorder). Robert Hare, the guy who put psychopathy on the map in the first place, thinks they’re wrong; for him, psychopathy is a mix of sociopathy and narcissism (ASPD plus NPD). Myself, I think Hare is right, and the APA wrong. So since Johnson is a narcissist (no-one but a narcissist would want to be prime minister) and a sociopath (proven by his smarmy ways), he must be a psychopath also.
As to the fourth, please re-read what you said: Johnson is a “Tory politician.” But Johnson need not necessarily have been a Tory. If he had been born into different circumstances, he might well have become a New Labourite. There’s a lot in common between Johnson and Blair!
Well Blair was a Tory. I would question whether Johnson is a Tory of just a populist.
