Body Bags

Body Bags

They don’t look so tough in body bags,

                Chucked carelessly in mass graves,

                                Blown to smithereens

In splatters.

Reality is a far cry

                From the bravado and boasts

                                Posing with guns

                                                In arrogant scenes

                                                                Now in tatters.

Bravery and strength

                Do not repel bullets.

                                Where a shell lands

                                                Is down to luck.

Anyone can stand tall

                Pretend to be so macho

                                Aggressive talk and body pumps

Missiles don’t give a fuck.

All those young men signing up to go off and fight, so cocksure, but there’s nothing cool about fighting. The body bags are waiting. The missiles don’t care how tough you are. The mines will blow off your legs.

The world should have got past all that barbaric, primitive violence and stupidity. War is distilled terror and horror. Soldiers are pawns – nothing more!

Bravery is a farce. Neanderthal men are an embarrassment.

This is 2022.

Wars are never won.

War has become digital.

We are bombed by robots and targeted by computers.

Bravery and strength have been side-lined.

This is the modern age. Death is industrial.

Bodies in the street

Bodies in the street

The last touch

                Before they left the universe;

The last touch

                Before they are gone forever,

Was the frozen hard ground.

Bodies abandoned

                In the street

                                With no-one to care,

No-one to provide that final embrace.

Left to freeze

                In the icy street

                                With no warmth

In those last seconds;

                No human touch

                                No final goodbye.

I wrote this in response to the scenes of Russian soldiers left strewn across a city street, abandoned and uncared for.

Their body heat seeps into the ground until they become frozen lifeless lumps of meat.

They, and the thousands of Ukrainian citizens and soldiers killed by the Russians, were disposed of in mass graves dug by machines.

Death has lost all humanity.

The Rat

The Rat

Beware the Rat!

                Pushed into a corner

                                He flies for the jugular.

Putting aside

                All fear and reason

                                He blindly hits out.

When there is no escape route

                Desperation

                                Calls the tune.

When it is existential

                There are no limits

                                Reason dies.

Putin’s error in attacking Ukraine has produced an existential crisis. If he backs down he is lost. If he continues it is disaster. He has no way out.

Putin is backed into a corner.

The Russian army is shelling a nuclear power station. Does it get much more insane??

Has World War Three already started?

Will nuclear missiles we the next irrational stupidity?
