Death
Neurones first,
Cardiac muscle,
Liver cells.
All based on oxygen need,
On metabolic rate.
Nephrons,
Glands
And gut.
Days pass
Skin cells go last.
When is it over?
Hair and nails grow as normal
Even as you are lowered into the earth.
All sensation has long departed.
Neurones go first
But life continues.
When do we call it death?

I find this process of death very strange from a scientific perspective? They used to think it was all about the heart but then it moved to the brain on the realisation that was the real seat of our consciousness.
At some point the body/mind decides to shut down and a process begins.
We say that someone has died when their brain activity has stopped, but is that really the end of it? Some tissues last for weeks.
When are we really dead?
