He created the riff that lies in the heart of all R&B artists. It’s immortal. He used the same riff, with minor variations on everything he did – speeding it up, slowing it down, and it always sounded brilliant.
I was lucky enough to see him in London in the early 70s. It’s a concert that will stick in my mind. He was pissed as a newt and brilliant!!
