Broken Britain
The sewers empty into the sea
Spewing turds among the sandcastles.
The food banks outnumber McDonald’s
In a country run by rascals.
The poor get poorer,
Holding down three jobs,
While the public services crumble
And the streets are run by yobs.
Billionaires pull the strings
In broken Britain!
As Tory minions
Dance to their tune,
Stuffing their loot,
Talk of sunny uplands
And put the boot in.
Who needs an education
For a life on the dole?
Or racing mad deliveries
In manic daze of toil?
This is broken Britain
Where the rich buy yachts
The rest starve and freeze
Rat‘s in baby’s cots
Billionaires pull the strings
In broken Britain!
As Tory minions
Dance to their tune,
Stuffing their loot,
Talk of sunny uplands
And put the boot in.
Can’t afford to shop!
Can’t afford the heating!
Can’t afford the rent!
Stop all this bleating!
We’ll still buy the Daily Express
The Telegraph and Mail;
Spouting that only Tories
Can deliver us from Hell!
Billionaires pull the strings
In broken Britain!
As Tory minions
Dance to their tune,
Stuffing their loot,
Talk of sunny uplands
And put the boot in.
The NHS is sold in segments
To US big pharma.
We’re told that Tory VIP lanes
Are never going to harm ya.
While the few pocket millions,
The many fight for crumbs.
In broken Britain –
With screws on the thumbs.
Billionaires pull the strings
In broken Britain!
As Tory minions
Dance to their tune,
Stuffing their loot,
Talk of sunny uplands
And put the boot in.
They sold us a Tory Brexit
To win back control.
Forgot to tell us
That we were digging a big hole.
While they lined their pockets
We paid the price.
We bought their lies
Like a bunch of stupid mice.
Billionaires pull the strings
In broken Britain!
As Tory minions
Dance to their tune,
Stuffing their loot,
Talk of sunny uplands
And put the boot in.
So Project Fear was all true
And is busy coming to pass.
A few got very rich,
We got a kick up the arse.
Billionaires pull the strings
In broken Britain!
As Tory minions
Dance to their tune,
Stuffing their loot,
Talk of sunny uplands
And put the boot in.
Foreigners look on amazed
At the mess we’ve made.
A proud country
Now a comic charade.
Led by a bumbling clown.
Now led by a moron.
How the hell did it happen?
The conclusion was foregone!
Billionaires pull the strings
In broken Britain!
As Tory minions
Dance to their tune,
Stuffing their loot,
Talk of sunny uplands
And put the boot in.
They gave us lying, idle Boris
And now we’ve got Liz Truss.
Still storing up the gold
By throwing us under the bus.
Glib talk of levelling up
And mighty global Britain!
Meaningless nonsense,
A throne for them to sit on!
Billionaires pull the strings
In broken Britain!
As Tory minions
Dance to their tune,
Stuffing their loot,
Talk of sunny uplands
And put the boot in.
Stuff their loot in.
Cosy up to Putin.
Propaganda rooting
In BROKEN BRITAIN!
Opher 17.10.2022
A constant stream of undiluted propaganda and spin from a Tory media has led us up the garden path!
We’ve had twelve years of Tory mismanagement.
The rich have much much richer.
The economy is messed up.
We are all much poorer.
All the public services are on their knees.
They sold us a bogus Brexit based on lies.
They are robbing the public services and needy to give bonuses to the wealthy.
Our prestige abroad is rock bottom.
This bunch of right-wing extremists are the greediest, most arrogant bunch of scheming xenophobes on the planet!!
Opher, do you think Sunak is worse than Truss, or the other way round?
As bad as each other I’d say Neil. Both lackey’s of the ERG. Truss was more stupid but Sunak comes across as weaker. He’s out of his depth. I think the ERG will eat him. They are puppets.
We still haven’t had any honesty or realism about the political/economic mess we’re in.
Truss’s stupidity, spurred on by a bunch of greedy Tories who were going to make a killing out of crashing the economy, was just naivety.
They’ve made their money now. The reports are that stocks of champagne have been exhausted. The rich have never had it so good.
At least Sunak is having to pull things together. He’s belatedly doing more windfall taxes and taxing the wealthy (one eye on the election) but it’s still too little too late.
The real harm has been the twelve years of robbery and mismanagement. That’s Cameron, May and that idle, greedy buffoon Johnson.
Opher, I don’t think Truss is actually as stupid as you think. By doing what they did (whether it was right or wrong – I haven’t looked at the detail, so can’t make that judgement), she and Kwarteng laid down a marker. They provided people with some small degree of hope, that the problems can be sorted without trashing the economy. When it becomes plain to everyone that the current way of doing things is unsustainable, that may prove to have been a significant legacy.
I did feel, though, that Truss looked a bit like Alexander Dubcek in the “Prague Spring” of 1968. Like him, she was rolled over by the establishment’s tanks. But in my view, she was the first prime minister since Thatcher not to be worse than her predecessor.
As to “twelve years of robbery and mismanagement,” make that forty. Or even more. And as to “honesty or realism,” when was the last time any politician had either of those?
Neil, I think Truss’s strategy was simply wrong. She put all her eggs in one basket and went for growth.
She wanted to achieve that growth by
a. Giving bribes to CEOs to entice them back to Britain after Brexit drove them away.
b. To give incentives through tax cuts to the top earners to entice them back and hopefully induce some investment.
The problem she was addressing was the huge black hole created by the extreme Tory Brexit. Firms have fled to Europe, the financial centre is collapsing. our output and investment are down. Our GDP has dropped over 4%.
They will never admit that Brexit is the cause, but it is.
She was banking on growth paying for the Public Services. Brexit has meant a huge hole in our finances which means we can’t afford the public services.
The markets looked at this huge amount of borrowing to give tens of billions to the wealthy and did not think it would work. They did not believe the wealthy would come back and they did not believe that they would invest. All they saw was a massive hole in the budget and a major decline in the UK.
The instant, painless, answer to this problem is to rejoin the single market and customs union. A massive boost to trade, solves the skill shortage, boosts the economy and hey presto we have growth, investment and can pay for the public services without austerity and tax hikes.
My fear is that the damage has been done. We’ve lost the financial centre. So many won’t come back.
Brexit has been an unmitigated disaster that has sent the UK into terminal decline. We’re heading to be a basket case like Greece.
