It is a sad reflection on the whole of humanity that anywhere you go around the world you find fortresses. The whole history of humanity is one of fear, aggression and violence. It’s universal. Human beings are vicious animals.
Putin’s war in Ukraine shouldn’t surprise us at all. The fact that we’ve had peace in Europe for so long is the real surprise. We conveniently blot out all the other wars going on around the world – Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Myanmar and Ethiopia. They’ve had their 5 minutes. Move on. Nothing to see.
Then there’s Afghanistan and Iraq, Libya.
A few years back I visited Vietnam and Cambodia – places that we tried to flatten not so long ago. Now a tourist destination.
War is madness.
War is normal (for us).
