Good to know that many people are not going to starve or go cold this winter! Just you and me then??

Perhaps we should count the number of previous and present leaders who are pulling in millions each year! Blair, Cameron, Osborne, Trump, Bolsonaro, Johnson, Sunak, Truss, Rees-Mogg – all pretending to understand and support the ordinary folk while blatantly robbing them and feathering their own nests!

There should be a law!

Ahh – but who makes the laws??

£180 bottles of wine. Free holidays, Wallpaper at £184 a roll, Free meals, limousines, ………. I think I know a few people who won’t be turning the central heating down.

  1. There should be a law! Ahh – but who makes the laws??

Well spotted, Opher. Your next assignment is to understand the difference between law (what is right and wrong for humans to do) and laws (what politicians dictate).

    1. Already spotted that one Neil. The problem is that society does need laws. Lawless societies are not nice to live in. The trouble comes when those making the laws use it as an opportunity to give themselves privileges over everybody else. That is why we need openness, scrutiny and accountability – something these Tories seem allergic to.

      1. …openness, scrutiny and accountability – something these Tories seem allergic to.

It isn’t just the Tories, Opher. It’s all the politicians. And their academic, bureaucrat, corporate, media and other hangers-on. Openness, scrutiny and accountability are anathema to all political elites.

The trouble comes when those making the laws use it as an opportunity to give themselves privileges over everybody else.

You’re right there Opher, but that’s only one half of the problem. You have described what I call the “parasites,” that use politics to make themselves and their mates richer than they deserve. The other half is what I call the “pests,” the ones that use politics to screw people they don’t like as hard as they can. (Such as, for example, what they did to small business people over COVID lockdowns, and are now doing over energy prices).

      2. Gosh!! We’re in total agreement Neil!! I perhaps wouldn’t be quite so hard on ‘all’ politicians. I do believe some are OK and doing it to genuinely make a difference.

      3. Oh, there are a few relatively uncorrupted politicians, Opher. But they are only a small minority. And they very rarely get anywhere near positions of real power in their parties.

I'd like to hear from you...
