And Greta Thunberg is ridiculed by much of the right-wing establishment.
Glasgow is coming up… are we capable of learning and accepting or is capitalism too fragile/powerful/blinkered to get to grips with what appears to be a looming catastrophe?
The more I see of the state of the world – our world…. Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Belarus, climate crisis, Pegasus spyware-hacking, fake news, Trump, Bolsonaro/Amazon, Covid, migrants, etc. the more I think what the fuck is going on!
Never has the world been in such a state and never before have we had the means to view it all around the world ‘live’ as it is happening. With such a world view, we have no excuse. It’s as if we are stuck in some sort of mire that is clinging and preventing us from breaking free and doing something about it. It beggars belief that we are still unable to recognise our interdependence: that we are one species, one humanity sharing this interdependence on our one home, this planet.
We might just have left it too late…..and I am an optimist!
John puts in words my own dismay at the world we are creating; a world run by populist fools like Bolsonaro, Trump and Johnson whose greed and short-sightedness epitomise the stupidity of mankind.
I too want a world of butterflies, beauty and green forests for my grandchildren to see, enjoy and wonder at. I too want a world of fairness and peace where nature is valued and nurtured. I want my great grandchildren, yet unborn, to be able to see rhinos, elephants and gorillas in the wild, living safely. I want them to breathe fresh air and drink clean water. I want there to be rainforests, wild flowers and wildlife in profusion. I want there to be a world that is fair for all people, free of prejudice, racism and violence.
That is not the scenes I am seeing played out on my TV every single day.
What I see is violence, cruelty, greed and stupidity, a lust for power, exploitation, extreme inequality, racism and wanton destruction for profit or fun.
I despair of humanity. We inherit the earth and turn it into hell.
What have we done???
Where are the sensible, intelligent leaders to take us out of this mess our present clowns are creating????
